*** The Official Samsung Galaxy Note II Thread ***

Google Now is fantastic. Been running it since yesterday on my HOX and it works a charm. Although will test it properly next week when I'm out and about to see how the travel card works.

It's useful at answering basic questions like what is the weather like now, will it rain on Monday, it'll answer you back. Ask it to convert into a currency it will do it, ask a calculation it will do it for you, ask the time in a certain country it tells you, ask for the nearest pub it shows you directions, very useful.

Usually I'd go into maps and search but now simple voice command with location pinpoints you the nearest whatever you ask and shows directions. Ask it to call the nearest Pizza Hut and it will call it.

I can see myself using it on the go quite a bit. If I'm in a new place and looking for a certain place it'll be handy.

Not tried Siri as I've not updated to iOS6 but Google Now so far seems good. Only can improve..

On Monday I'll order this on Three's One Plan, as they're the only provider I've talked to that offers truly unlimited internet with tethering included. T-Mobile couldn't offer me more than 1.5gb with tethering.. no thanks.

I've been leaning towards 3 as well, don't forget to go through quidco for £101 cashback to sweeten the deal. I'm gonna wait a while longer though until we hopefully see the 32GB model.

Poped into cpw in oxford picked up a note 2 only been using it for about an hour so no conclusions yet

Initial thoughts? What phone did you own before?

That was my thinking too, but then will the LTE version work with the 800MHz and 2.6GHz bands either? Basically meaning, get the
  • 3g Note II - use it with everyone
  • 4g LTE Note II - use it with one, possibly two networks EE ( now) & Three (next september)

A very good summing up. I can't see Samsung making a phone with the other frequency bands until the operators call for it (and we still await the bidding process let alone the allocation of frequency chunks to particular operators).

So an 'all frequencies' version of the Nate 2 is probably some way off - we'll be on to Note 3 by then!

Be interesting to see how well the multiple 4G frequencies work in due course. My understanding is that the 800MHz band will travel further and be able to penetrate walls more effectively than the higher frequencies (esp. 2600).

Also, reports from the States suggest that LTE has a devastating effect on battery life...

What's the response time like? Some of the Siri clones I've seen on Android (haven't used Google Now) take so long to understand the question and provide an answer that you might as well have looked it up manually!

The idea of 'cards' looks interesting.

Given the battery a good test today and it really is great.

Took it off charge just after 7.30am this morning. Watched an episode of inbetweeners on the phone while using my crosstrainer. Made a call for 45 minutes via bluetooth headset. Used internet and text messaging a few times throughout the day. Used it for recipes at meal times. Took 3 photos on the camera and emailed them via 3G. Played bad piggies for 1 hour 50 mins this evening while missus watched her shows. Installed a couple of items and browsed the play store. Still on 22% battery so will easily last me the whole day which is a first for me.

Screen has been on 4 hours 42 minutes. WiFi and Bluetooth have been on the entire time and no effort has been made on the part of any power saving.

Great stuff Samsung :)

To all owners, how is the text like? I've read it's not that sharp. How's sound quality via headphones?

The opposite, it's actually clearer and sharper then the SGS3. I loaded up OCUK on both and turned it side-ways. Look at the text closely and you see a 'saw-tooth' effect on the S3 and you can see individual pixels but on the Note2 it's nice and clear. Not sure how the hell they did it but the screen on the Note2 looks better then the resolutions indicates

The SGS3 uses the same sub-pixel arrangement as the original Note (as shown on the left).

Still not "quite" as sharp as a 'stripe' RGB subpixel arrangement, such as the IPS LCD screen on the One-X, but for me the benefits of an OLED screen (contrast, brightness, power efficiency, colour stability) far outweigh any slight loss of fidelity.

Going to be taking my Note II back to CPW for a replacement. I noticed that part of the back panel isn't clipping in fully as the silver bezel has some sort of manufacturing defect.

Boo :(

Yeah that's what i see, on the S3 i see the red dots poking out of alignment but on the Note2 they're all mixed in nicely

would have thought that within in hour you would have thought something about it

I have an iphone 2 before

comments so far

1) I keep pressing the hard option buttons either side of the home button accidentyl
2) built in calendar is useless, but I found calengoo which is much better
3) even though the phone is bigger they keys on the keyboard are no bigger because there is so much crammed onto it - i think I can change the KB so not really an issue
4) I keep having to press things twice - because it does not register my touch - getting better now im getting used to it
5) it is obviously much faster than an ip4 - the reason i changed is because the lag on the IP4 (about 0.25s maybe 0.5) when you do anything was driving me insane even when you press teh home button to close an app it takes at least half a second to drop back to the home screen. Note 2 feels instant
6) android feels much more complex I would not recommend it to anyone who was not techie
7) it feels a lot lighter than my ip4

Galaxy note 2 LTE is listed on the T mobile check it out.

£36.00 24 months 2000 mins
Unlimited T-Mobile talk, texts and data on your phone
£129.00 handset price
Use quidco to claim £120 (£120 for "24 month handset contracts £36 a month and over")

Edit: I just remembered that this might be a 3G contract and you upgrade to 4G later not sure.

Chat with online agent on T mobile site:
tupat: not 4g?
Rhea: Yes, it's a contract on 3G
tupat: Upgrade to 4G later?
Rhea: Yes, you can upgrade to 4G later
