Windows 8 who's buying/upgrading

Fair enough. It's just that some people seem to think it's the holy grail of gaming when it really isn't as simple as porting a few games over.

You mean the same way people think that win 8 is the holy grail ;)
Win 8 has got to sell more then 100mil copies or it will be called a fail as win 7 has sold over 90mil.

As for games I love to go back to dos but linux will do :)

Already got Win 8 Pro on my workstation. Best OS i've ever used.

All drivers are already working perfectly too, had zero problems with gaming and anything else. Infact some well known issues i had with Win 7 have been fixed.

Everythings faster (even with SSD's + 32GB RAM + hex core i7), it uses less resources than 7, security is better, the built-in AV is actually really good. Loads of useful desktop improvements for things like multi-monitor setups and file copying. But worth it alone for Storage Spaces.

For £25 upgrade you'd have to have some form of brain damage not to get it.

If Asus release GOOD motherboard drivers for Windows 8 I'll consider taking the leap, Storage Places could be nice if they sort out performance problems with it etc.

I'm really not interested in w8 but for £25 I will upgrade my spare vista license just inn case.

Question... I still have my windows 95, 98 and ME instal discs somewhere. Could these be used to upgrade to w8 via the £25 deal too?

As far as I understand its only Xp/vista/w7
And even XP is always refered to as sp3 so I assume if you haven't you would need to install that.

I'm using an Asus Rampage IV Extreme and the motherboard drivers are working fine. No issues. But even without the Asus drivers Win 8 will install basic drivers for almost eveything. Network, sound and graphics drivers worked right away and it detected my screen res correctly.

Theres actually less drivers needed for Win 8 than Win 7 as well, as 8 comes with more built-in support. For instance you don't need USB 3.0 drivers, as 8 has native support (Win 7 doesn't, you always need 3rd party drivers for it to work).

Is it worth it for my missus? She browses, uses Facebook, does work e-mails etc, no gaming at all just general usage. She still has XP.

Not IMO, if she encounters any problems in Win8 it will be your fault for suggesting the upgrade :)

For browsing, email and social networks even a tablet OS usually suffices.

Havent tried it out yet. But from what I have seen, it is not exciting me at all.

Looks like it's built with mobile devices in mind. Adesktop is not a mobile device.

But time will tell. Maybe its such a new idea, we arent ready for it yet?

I'm really stuck to upgrade or not?

I have it installed on my tab and its fine.

I have a full licence for windows 8 pro but just don't know if i should put it on my main pc or not?

I had it on there for about a week but it died and I reverted to windows 7.

I know once i put the start 8 dock on it will look and feel like windows 7 but I did have a few problems with it.

1) bitdefender who's website says 2013 supported windows 8 doesn't. It dies on boot and no matter what won't restart.

What are the major benefits over windows 7?

I have 2 or 3 licences for windows 8 so just wondering to install or not?
