Why PC gaming? Advantages over console?

PC graphics are vastly superior than the next gen consoles and the next next gen consoles. Games are normally cheaper too (plus free/cheaper mods/bonus packs).

PC can be upgraded.

PC can be overclocked (or at least it is worthwhile to overclock plus mods to help OC).

I play on both, PS3 for the exclusive games and PC for everything else. Prefer the PC for FPS and games that come alive when modded, like Skyrim and Fallout.

The main reason is one device to do many tasks.
I game on it, edit video from my camcorder, browse the internet, learn, work tasks and office, store family photos, fap, many reasons.

Plus when I am gaming the family can still watch TV on the large TV in the living room.

PCs aren't that expensive really, you dont need to spend £1000s. The games are also much cheaper if you buy them a few months after release.

Plus it's a great hobby especially in winter.

Pros:
- Mouse and Keyboard for FPS games is so much better and you can easily use a gamepad if you prefer (Whereas it's a pain to use M&KB on consoles).
- Better graphics generally.
- Usually very moddable games.
- Games tend to be cheaper both on release and during price cuts (Steam sales are fantastic for picking up great games and low prices).
- You can usually avoid FPS drops with a decent system by lowering the settings, something you can't do on consoles.
- Highly customizable; Multi-monitor, 3D etc.
- Less likely to have your PC die altogether (RRoD/YLoD).
-Gaming PCs are usually good at other things too from being fast to open emails etc to rendering videos and using photoshop.

Cons:
- Sometimes it's nice to sit back on a chair/sofa and play games which most PCs aren't set up to do.
- There tends to be more hackers or cheaters due to the easy availability of the software.
- Some multiplatform games are exclusive to consoles.
- Some devs refuse to develop for PC.
- Fair few ****** ports.
- Can be expensive and there are various other technical problems you won't run into on consoles.

I know a lad, lives with his wife and they have no kids.
His PC is in the bedroom, his wife keeps trying to catch him with his trousers down (so to speak) anyhow they have a creaky few stairs on the staircase, she creeps upstairs then runs as soon as it creaks.

Haha!!

I can't imagine anything more embarrassing! :o

I dismantled and sold my PC, purchased a Laptop and PS3 to make way for my daughters nursery.
God I miss PC gaming..

Have both. Get bored of console after an hour or 2. With pc I feel like I'm there and get to indulge In the game much much more with the superior graphics . Just all in its a much better gaming experience for me with the graphics and the love you put into the build of your pc:)

The PC is the definitive gaming platform, with an unprecedented back-catalogue of titles spanning several generations, emulators capable of playing games both past and present in high definition, and an unparalleled independent community. This in addition to exclusives consisting of game-play elements simply not achievable on current generation console hardware, renders the PC the epitome of both quality and quantity.

PC Pros

- Good graphics
- High framerate
- High resolution
- Game modifications
- Tons of free, progressive, official content (Left 4 Dead 2, shining example)
- Very cheap games
- Can 'try before you buy' every title
- Steam
- Free online
- Dedicated servers
- Less children
- Some of the best exclusive games
- Essentially an uber console, can be set up exactly the same way as a console is in your living room, should you want to
- Can use controllers, hook up to T.V.
- Nigh infinite uses beyond gaming
- Porn

PC Cons

- Expensive hardware
- Elitist userbase
- Terrible console ports with awful optimization, requiring insulting hardware specs to run smoothly
- More crashes, errors and corruptions
- Mostly require downloads to play games, which can be an issue on low internet speed/bandwith
- Most of the PC exclusives are hitting consoles, and are being massively dumbed down in the process
- Will miss out on some great franchises that never hit the PC (God of War, Halo, Gears of War)

Xbox 360 Console Pros

- Cheap hardware
- Some amazing games exclusive, that will probably never find their way to PC
- Seem to get most games and DLC first
- Decent online servers, although they are pay 2 play
- Brilliant dashboard, or 'desktop' if you will
- Very good support

Xbox 360 Console Cons

- See 'PC Pros'
- Subscription based online gaming
- Childrenz
- Mostly expensive games
- Few demos

PS3 Console Pros

- Cheap hardware
- Some amazing games exclusive, that will probably never find their way to PC
- Sexy controller
- Much better exclusives than the 360
- Greatly customizable dashboard or 'desktop if you will
- Free online, optional subscription that gives substantial benefits, unlike Xbox Gold which pretty much only allows online play

PS3 Console Cons

- See 'PC Pros'
- Largely laggy servers and userbase, due to it being the more popular console outside of America/UK
- Frustrating support
- Childrenz
- Mostly expensive games
- Few demos

Wii Console Pros

- Women may find it cute, may even play
- Zelda/Resident Evil exclusives
- Fun with friends

Wii Console Cons

- Graphics are laughable
- a lot of the features and games are gimmicks
- It's kinda gay

I've owned all of them, and my mum owns a Wii. A large part of that is my opinion I suppose.

Another advantage is you will get great games that would just never work on the console as they're not a casual friendly game. Like the game in my sig for instance. Its also another game that has been brought to life with various mods.

Nice list Omaeka. I'd agree with most of that, apart from the 'try before you buy'. I'd say that was a con, rather than a pro in the long run, but that's for another topic :p.
