Pandora Bracelet

God help us when a bunch of geeky posters on a computer forum all become (some already are ;)) women's jewellery experts. :p:D

I have my expert badge on... :D

Its far too common on here but people love to put down other peoples tastes and purchases for absolutely no reason.

I guess it depends on what you mean by low cost but with charms ranging from £25 - £550 and the gold bracelet costing nearly £1000 Pandora can be pretty expensive. They have also been around for over a decade so not sure they count as a fad either.

It is relatively cheap jewellery, and its wide mainstream popularity is a recent thing that will no doubt fade over time, it is dress jewellery and is a mass marketed branded fashion. It isn't just charm bracelets either, but a whole range of branded jewellery, from watches to rings all marketed in a certain way.

I didn't say it was tacky or that it was aimed at 'chavs' or that it was tatty rubbish like the asumption some like atpx seem to be making, each to their own.

It isn't something I would buy for my wife, but that's because it's not her sort of thing.

Go on then, show us a picture of what you consider an appropriate and tasteful piece of jewellery that we can all agree on.

It would be a bit of a futile exercise as it would likely lead to any number of negative replies from people who are probably offended by my earlier comments.

Its also inherently easier to subjectively judge something as 'tacky' than to find something that would be universally accepted as being of good taste.

And there you have it, universally accepted, never going to happen, thank god we all have our own opinions and tastes huh!

You suggested that those who like Pandora lack taste, therefore there must be an example of taste that you are judging this against. It was stupid of you to say that those who like it lack taste, because taste is subjective. Just because you don't like it doesn't give you the right to damn those who do. You just came across like a total fool.

i knew a girl called Pandora once, never did see here box though...

get her something nice from a small / independent jewler, it'll be much better value and quality and (hopefully) mean more to her as you've not just bought something everyone else will have.

Care to say it now? :p

Everyone has subjective opinions - if you guys thing that buying a bracelet which you can add to with a whole variety of 'charms' isn't tacky jewelry then fair enough... personally I think its horrendously tacky.

It is relatively cheap jewellery,

Well that would really depend on what you are comparing it to surely? Pandora, like most charm bracelets, can be very expensive or relatively inexpensive. I guess if you were comparing it to the likes of Boodles then yeah, it is relatively cheap, but I am not sure if a £1000 bracelet and another £1000 of charms could be considered "cheap".

Possibly, but it has been going strong for quite a few years now so "fad" is a touch harsh.

No, that was dowie.

No I never said that you meant that.

In fact, thats a WORLD away from what i was saying.

Pandora doesn't really command the price, my other half keeps asking for it for presents but I keep denying her.

It just seems like costume jewellery to me?

It is relative...in the scheme of things, as jewellery goes it is, shall we say, affordable to most people. It isn't an aspirational thing.

I disagree, much of that decade it has been relatively unknown, a huge marketing campaign has recently made it very popular, and I suspect that in a few years it will return to relative obscurity, when the next thing comes along.....time will tell no doubt.

No, that was dowie.

Atpx was the one who quoted me.

Your other half, the woman that you love, with your whole heart, who would no doubt command a woe is me thread on these very forums if she were to pack her bags and sling her hook.....

Shes asking for some realtively inexpensive costume jewlery as a gift and you are denying it on the grounds that you dont like it.

Buy her some cheap shiny tat if thats what she wants, she will be over the moon!

Get one from the Pandora shop. It then means that the next few birthdays or Christmases require little thought as you can just buy a charm for the bracelet. It keeps the wife happy.
