Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [17 - 19th November 2012]

YESSSSSS! Get in there Norwich!

Got back from Carrow Road and it was un-bel-ievable(to be said in a Gary Neville voice). We stopped them playing through us which meant they had to play long ball football, we got a tad lucky with Van Persie producing a couple of airshots but we had far more chances than them and the scoreline flatters United.

Chris Hughton has made us very secure at the back which is something that Lambert couldn't do(look at Villa being thumped by Man City for example) and we are also very good counter attacking team, although how Howson missed that one on one chance I will never know..

To be fair, Norwich had conceded more than Aston Villa before they faced the Champions today :p

That's because we had a shocking start to the season as none of the defence had played together before this season. They have grown as a unit and we are now a far better team defensively this season than we were before. I think the fact that Van Persie was forced to go into midfield to get the ball and that United's best chance was a header that came off a Norwich player summed up how good Norwich's defending was.

We have yet to concede a goal in November and since our hammering at the hands of Chelsea we have conceded 1 goal in 5 league games including playing United and Arsenal..

1 in the last 5 games isn't bad, and while they conceded a lot it before then, it was only really 3 games, a 4 and two 5's. For a team that is learning under a new manager and has a new CB partnership that takes time to gel, that isn't surprising or bad, not conceding more than one in a game 9 out of 12 games is huge for a lower table team, huge. Any team can score 1 goal, if you aren't conceding more than 1 goal, that means you're fighting for draws and wins rather than frequent losses.

Which shows in that of those 9 games they've conceded 1 or less, they've only lost 1 game, drawn 5 and won 3, concede 2 per game and that goes changes to 6 losses, 3 draws, or put another way 14 points, or 3.

Lower end teams get on the ends of maulings, thats life, so do higher end teams, if you drop 5 goals in 5 games a season, and 1 in the other 33, thats 58 total, drop 2 goals a game, thats 76 goals conceded. The odd bad game means nothing, losing by 5, or losing by 2 doesn't matter. if the majority of your games are tight, that means your team can nick results.

Irrelevant really, Hughton was still in charge in those maulings by Liverpool, Fulham etc.

Can't agree, new manager and taken some time to mould a new defence and add tettey. We're unlikely to keep 4 clean sheets in 5 all the time, but I would guess we are unlikely to concede 14 in 3 in a short spell either. Those games aside we look as solid as any team around us. In any case, good value for the win today, certainly the better team.

Today I guess highlighted how much we miss Rooney, nothing in between Carrick and Giggs and the forwards. The fact they just don't support attacks at all is so frustrating to watch, such a lack of dynamism and movement in the middle. Valencia and Young were really poor and Hernandez was shown up to be very limited too.

Hernandez was shown up to be very limited too.

You mean he can't score without the ball?

I think of more concern is how useless RvP was, he barely even tried to come deep and get the ball. Just seemed to be content standing around up front missing our best chance :p
