*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Just ran my nexus 7 down till it turned off, how do i know if its charging?

NM, i pushed the on button once and got a little white battery charging symbol.

The static screen thing is not a new thing from 4.2. I had it on mine ages ago. It seems to be caused by running the battery completely flat.

It can be solved with a very long (30 seconds) press of the power button to turn it on after sticking some charge in it.

My n7 seem to run down to shutting off point and charge back up fine. Ill give it a few more goes to see how it fairs.

What do people do when charging to keep the battery life good? Run it all the way down, or just charge when needed? I forget which types of batteries are best run down and which can be charged at any point.

iirc modern batteries in phones and tablets are best not run completely down.

I run mine down to about 15% then charge it fully over night then once at 100% unplug from the mains. Seems fine and battery life still long.

So I went back to Currys, got the replacement without any hassle from the staff (which was nice), and thankfully the new one doesn't have any discernable screen lift and backlight bleeding much better .... but, there is a very slight buldge in the silver frame on the left hand side. It's not noticeable, when viewed in normal use, but if look at it from an angle it's clearly there. Really annoyed, but I don't think I can be bothered to go back to store and moan about it all over again, plus it's most likely I'll just a different fault next time.

You get what you pay for I guess.

Having just bought my third N7, which has no screen lift that I can detect other than the left being about .3 of a mm higher than the right (possibly, it's still under the frame though) I can safely say that I have yet to see a single N7 without the odd little kink in the frame, on my first one I was running my finger along it as it was quite pronounced and it just popped out.

I must have also got a good one,

Not a single issue with mine (other than the software glitch I mentioned earlier). I'm sure it's an easy fix for Google (ie, just prevent it switching on until it has enough charge). Hardware wise it's perfect.

Have to say, I prefer this over my iPad 3 which cost twice the price! That's mostly due to form factor and google services.

May i ask what these are like for browsing the internet / forums / facebook? I'm thinking of getting one to use mainly in bed while watching tv and ditching my laptop. However im concerned that it might not be big enough and i should go for the 10?

I love my Nexus 7, I have to charge it every night because of the high usage. Kids play games on it, I like to read and watch the news. And it works so good. My friends who own Ipads are jealous a lot.

Are there any stand out roms and kernels for this? I'm running paranoid android and stock kernel at the moment but I don't really feel like I'm using any of the fancy bits of the rom so it seems a waste.
