*** The OcUK Ultima 10.1 Thread ***

I had to reset the tablet about an hour ago as it just shut down and would not come back on again, I reset using a pin and then it turned on thank goodness!
First time that had happened so fingers crossed it doesn't do it again..

Still can't get over just how nice this tablet is, yes it has a few little quirks but what tablet doesn't. ;)

I've not used a tablet PC before so thought I'd go for one of these as a cheap starter tablet.
My only previous experience with Android has been version 2.3.5 on Samsung smartphones.

I'm not liking this tablet. :(

Ignoring the dead pixel I find the screen really awkward. Scrolling and dragging icons is nasty. It's so smooth and easy on the phones.
Customising the home screen seems awkward too and I've not totally figured out how to remove the unused screens. There seems to be a lack of widgets too.
Doesn't seem to do anything my phone doesn't already do (albeit smaller).

That and currently a number of apps don't seem to like Android 4.1.

Based on this experience I believe if I get another tablet it'll be a Windows 8 tablet and I'll spend a decent amount of money on it.

Now just have to decide whether to DSR it...

Had this once so far, was after about 3 days constant use on both power and just battery. Being fine since but my experience of Android devices is well they can do strange things from time to time, hell even my IPhone locks up at the worse of times, like when trying to take a call. Only tablet I've used so far that's never locked on me is Asus Windows 8 one, but give that a miss at £600

Android tablets are essentially that, bigger versions of mobile android phones. Example Galaxy S3 is more powerful and has a better screen both touch and picture than most tablets, but an S3 is immense quality and also immense money and still suffers locking up due to android quirkiness. Though the S3 is big it's still to small to browse and do Internet browsing on or play games.

Yes Windows 8 tablets are untouchable, they're Ibtel Ultrabook based and Windows 8 is a far superior and more stable OS compared to android.

Mine crashed a couple of times yesterday, notwithstanding the silly number of dead pixels. I had to plug it into the wall outlet to get it to respond each time.

that's not done anything, still unresponsive...

Now if it was a phone I'd just take the battery out...

At this rate it'll still be turned on when I DSR it!

You are comparing apples with oranges. Plus I've had no problems with my Nexus 7 crashing like the problems mentioned in this thread. Unfortunately with cheap Chinese tablets you get these issues, I have done a few group buys on Teclast and Ainol tablets (considered some of the better ones) and seen a lot of problems, mainly with screens but also with iffy firmware. These tablets generally aren't Google certified either so you can't trust getting proper updates of the Google apps etc. as they have been sideloaded.

You have to be prepared to tinker around with cheaper tablets, especially as time goes on.

Right, pretty sure this is being DSR'd now. However I'd really like to erase all of my data before I do...

Is there a customer services section for technical queries on android tablets?

So far I have been impressed with this tablet for the few hours I have been using it.

Gripes so far are;

1) Back light bleed bottom left had corner
2) 2 x Dead/Stuck pixels and/or dirt (they are different in size)
3) Noise interference when using headphones

How are people finding the battery life? I have run mine down and then fully recharged but it seems a little on the short side.

Battery life usuallly takes a few recharges to settle down, but have you turned off Bluetooth (if you're not using it)?

Silly question, but you did push the reset button with a pin yes? Mine locked up when installing flash on the browser but all fine after a reset

I'm really impressed with this so far - no dead pixels, fast and easy to set up. Will do me fine until I can afford a Windows tablet

Nope, wasn't a silly question. Didn't even spot the reset switch
That seemed to fix it...
Thanks.

Still very tempted to DSR it though, at least I can erase my data if I do.

The locking up problem seems to be a firmware issue if anything, as the tablet doesn't switch off - it actually enters sleep mode. It should be easily fixable so OCUK might want to talk to their supplier about looking into it.

Got mine this morning. Already had one lock up which forced me to reset it.
No dead pixels thankfully. Youtube/iplayer/netflix/tv catchup all work fine.

There's a fair bit of hiss on the headphone output and I have to say that I expected the display to be better. It's not terrible, but viewing angles are pretty poor imo. You don't have to move very far from straight on viewing to notice the contrast shifting very noticeably.

Browsing and navigating is pretty snappy on the plus side.
Gonna live with it for a couple of days before i decide if it's a keeper.

EDIT: Just locked up while watching TV catchup.

Mine arrived.

Sending it back Under RMA (NOT DSR) as it has a major fault.

Minor faults:
1. Liquid spots on LCD, under touch glass.
2. Dirt under Touch screen. (being a phone repair man i would remove the dirt but major fault stopping me)
3. sound is too low.

Major fault:
When useing the ANTUTU Benchmark and watching 1080P Video... Basically anything that causes a lot of power draw.. Guess what happens?
The tablet shuts off, gone dead, nothing alive.
The ONLY way to make it run these things is being plugged into its 5v adapater and that buzzes like mad trying to keep up with the power draw.

it is such a shame that OCUK put there name to this tablet.
