*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

Is anyone using a USB OTG Y adaptor that allows charging and USB access? Ideally on a non rooted unit and a link to a working one would be great please.

Went to CPW today, and they wouldn't sell me one.
From the time of this morning till this evening it's been removed from sale at HO.

The chaps at the store couldn't do anything for me either (I knew one of them from school and he was a sound chap so would actually help out if he could)

Oh well, I'll wait till they drop again

Phew, got mine from there last night.

How did GTA run? I've got my Note II for games but just curious really.

Ewaf - poetic slimline case looks nice! How much did you pay?

Got it as a present but its a bout 25 quid. If you order from Amazon its a very long delivery, about 2 weeks.

Not sure if anyone else has seen this YouTube video showing NFC on the Nexus. I have just ordered some of the tabs and am going to put one in the car holder and have it launch CoPilot when I put it in the cradle.

I am sure I can think of a few other occasions when it can be of use such as have it launch Sonos controller when I am in the kitchen, etc.

I've got an NFC tag on my phone holder in the car that switches my S3 into car mode and turns on the bluetooth and GPS.

It works really nicely.

What's the best way of connecting external media to the N7? Just a micro USB to USB cable and a USB stick? Is that good enough? (i.e. if I'm on a flight, or have extra media I need to look at and don't want to cram the internal memory).

You need a USB On The Go cable. It's pretty much a micro USB to USB cable but has some pins looped on the micro end.

If your N7 isn't rooted you'll also need the Nexus Media Importer app to either copy or stream media to your N7 from the USB stick. And it's read only.

Hope that helps. :)

Which is the best file manager app to use? There is nothing pre-installed is there or am I going blind??

Sky Go and TVcatchup working fine! I've installed all my puzzle, less graphically intense and 'smaller file size' games on the N7, can free up some space on my Note II's internal memory now.

Well - I've just finished doing all the updates and installing a few of my essential apps.

And...

I love it! It's so fast - so smooth! Really enjoying it so far. It's a little different to the S3, but at the same time the familiarity of Android is very welcoming.

I'm still trying to work out which widgets/apps I want to install - scouring the net at the moment for ideas and will scour this thread as well - I may be here some time.

Best semi-impulse purchase ever! :D

Perfect! Thank you - OTG cable on order.

If I wanted to write TO the Nexus - I'd have to root it presumably? Any other software necessary?

Does anyone else's app drawer lag when they first open it and swipe across? Mine keeps doing it, very annoying. Can only hope that an update fixes it.

Had my Nexus 7 since Christmas and all was fine until today it just will not startup. It was at 65% last night so I did a shutdown and left it to charge overnight, this morning it’s just dead. Looked around the net a bit seems a common problem so I’ve tried the holding of the power button for more than 30 seconds at a time and with volume buttons as well countless times and still nothing. I’ve taken the back off to check if it’s the issue with the battery connector and it was fully seated but I removed it and left it half an hour connected it back up put the case on and tried again and it’s still not responding.

Anyone have anything else I can try before sending it back?

Thanks,
Eric.
