***** Official Football Manager 13 Thread *****

Just finished my first season with rangers on FMC, think i prefer that mode, all the press conferences and team talks gets boring after a while as its generally just the same team talk i throw out each time depending if i won / lost / drew :9

Team of the year for first season in scottish 3rd division :
555D561FE7A599749A38189F63EF25FFECE407F1
...yes ok im Rangers and that is probably not difficult, but made me smile :p

Pic doesn't work, but I'm going to guess it's all Rangers? :D
(I prefer FMC too :) )

Edit: Actually pic is probably because it is hosted by steam and it is blocked at work

Questions about scouting.

So my scout hasn't found a single player to recommend to me yet... It's now February!
I'm obviously not setting the assignment right, I've tried a few things but I was getting so fed up of him 'having nothing to report' that I set the last one to have no criteria, but he still can't find any players. TBH, I think he's lying on a beach in Marbella :p

Any tips?
(I'm Harrogate Town in BSBN btw)

Way i do it go onto the player search and add these filters

Contract > expired
Position > the one im looking for
attribute > i start at 12 and make my way down.
attribute >
attribute >

The three attributes are the main attributes that im looking for, so say a playmaker id go for teamwork, passing and creativity. With the players on the list i tick them all and send my scouts to get scout reports.

I tend to chop and change with scouts quite a lot, some of them are completely useless! I rarely set much of a criteria initially (just basics - position, age etc) and just go through the list they come up with one by one sending scouts out for match reports for the shortlist. Takes a while sometimes but I enjoy the challenge. The player search by contract expired is good tip as above, use that a lot in lower leagues varying the attributes. Not sure if you have attribute masking on, but that makes it harder and more realistic IMO, you can't know every thing about a player just by his name right?

Attribute masking is on yes. Are you describing search for players through the transfer screen or actually sending a scout out on an assignment?

well with havent and waterlooville i got relegated from the blue square premier, i couldnt sign anyone new until january when it was too late to turn around.

so im back in blue square south but i have a couple of league 2 players in my squad so i hope to bounce straight back up.

im going to try the modern warfare 442 tactic i think.

Haha yeah all 11 players :)

FMC + individual training would be awesome :)

You got a link, I can only find variations?

Well had a massive turn around in fortunes, but I think it came to late to make the play offs. I'm now in 7th, 6 points of the playoffs with 5 to play. The last game of the season is against one of other contenders who are just ahead of me so it's possible.

Could really do with some goal machines up front.

Just about to hit the first game in SD2 with rangers, awful preseason, leaking goals left right and centre, and havent changed a thing!

Hopefully the 2 loanees that have come back both CD will strenghten that up a bit, better do for the wages they are on :p

I use a tweaked Modern Warfare 442 for both my saves. The standard MW worked a treat with Ayr in the lower divisions but hasn't worked so well for my Bournemouth squad in the Premier League, curiously. I've actually had more luck using some advice offered on this forum with my Premier leaguers. I'm still not totally convinced Im doing the right thing, and whether I should let my wingers be totally expressive or more disciplined. It's a tough call!

I have a question actually.

The transfer budget - is it very much use it or lose it? Or does it carry over to the next season? I can't work it out. The figures seems very random.

Always depends on the state of your club, say you have 5 mil in the bank and they give you 1.5mil to spend but you keep it then at the end of the season you are left with 1mil in the bank from losses, dont expect to have 1.5mil to spend next season. If you make money during the season, expect a higher budget, wage and transfer.

Ah I see so it very much depends on your finances prior - that makes sense. As Bournemouth in the PL I am given a pretty nice budget of about £10 million per transfer window. But with my Ayr save it is appauling! Even though this was my third season in the SPL I was given 0 transfer budget and paltry wages. It was proving incredibly difficult to sustain at that level - when I was up against the likes of Celtic and Rangers with their endless pots of gold. So I have just taken a new job at Huddersfield in the Championship :D Now I have a challenge, I have to get them up to a top half finish, and they are near the bottom, BUT I have a £14 million budget to play with.. Can the teams be any further apart...

What do you think are the best attributes for Director of Football and Assistant managers? And with coaches, are you best just hiring a coach who specialises in one field, to the best of their ability?

Ah ha thats why it looks different lol just looks a little more crisp than the default full game skin :p

Yeah, tbh I totally forgot I was playing FMC. I haven't played FM for a good few years and the reason I bought FM this years was because of FMC, I was wanting a 'diet' version that I could fit around work and children :)

Have to say I love it so far. It does remind me of older versions in days gone by :)

Lol the scottish leagues dont generate enough money, to get anywhere with them you need to actually qualify for champions league and even then you dont get the money like a premiership team would.

I dont know much about the director of football as thats a new role in this game. I usually go for 2 fitness coaches, 2 goalkeeping, 1 attacking, 1 defending, 1 tactics and 2 technique. Rather than waffle on ill just give you a website thats very good with helpping you finding the right player/staff for the job. http://www.guidetofootballmanager.com/staff/staff-roles#coach

- Won the European Super Cup
- Won the Club World Championship
- Won the Carling Cup
- Won the FA Cup
- Won the English Premier League

In the final of the CL now. Need to play Barca in a few days.

Managed to win the CL with this goal.

Was one of the most boring finals EVER. They had 10 shots, and I had 6.

They played a 16 year old at left back, no idea why either. Was so boring and cheap though.

Well, at least that is one of 5 Continental trophies won!

Seriously? That is an element of the game... players relationships with each other and it affects a 'B' team as you mentioned....

Another piece of garbage in the game, exactly why I don't pay attention to that pap side of things. Just because a few players are best mates shouldn't mean they have an advantage on the pitch, especially over attributes.

You have clearly never played football at any decent level then.....

I agree it's not ideal in a game, but in real life it most certainly makes a difference. I have seen mediocre players have great players in their pocket for a whole game because they had a great boosting from the lads.

Also lets be honest, Chelsea won the CL because of Terry, Lamps, Cole, Drogs, Ivanovich and Cech. Continuity I think is the word rather than "relationships".
