Big Bike Thread

If it's snapped in the crank, the crank might now be stuck on the old BB.
I dont think that the bolt will interface with the threads on the crank on those types of bottom brackets.
The threaded part of the crank is only used with a crank-removal tool or sometimes a plastic dust cover over the top of the crank bolt.

Well I'm feeling quite pleased with myself tonight. Couldn't be bothered waiting for the LBS to change over my bottom bracket so I bought the tools and fitted my groupset.

Learned a lot about how the bike goes together into the the bargain and after a bit of trial and error now have my brake levers further in towards the centre of the handle bars and kind of pointing downwards instead of straight ahead.

I'll need to find an excuse get out for a ride tomorrow night now. :)

The conditions on Saturday were fantastic :D I did a 25 mile ride local to me, I'm starting to get used to my Canyon more and more now and can really let it fly down the hills. I'm still tuning the rear shock, it was a little too soft this weekend.

I've got a few weekends away coming up; Lakes, Kirroughtree and Glentress in the next 2 months :D

I'm hoping this dry spell lasts until next weekend

LBS has 20% off everything tonight. Thinking of some new forks. Fox 34's with CTD for £719? Really want to give X Fusion a go but hardly anywhere has the Vengeance.

I find the whole place lacks flow, sometimes its hard to see which way to go. Great as a practice area though and the last section back to the carpark is decent enough fun. I like the trail that joins the two, needs bigger berms though.

They've made the most of what's there which I think is pretty ace to be honest. The red loop around the outside has some ace parts - I really love the last section too from where it splits black to the right (over the rocks and into the quarry) or red to the left, proper fast singletrack.

I think the first section flows nicely too if you attack it, but Cragg Quarry is quite hard to get around even the last time on my hardtail which it should be perfect for, you've really got to keep pedalling due to the constant up and down.

I dont even know if i have ever done the red trail, i have followed some arrows but soon get lost, done the bit where you drop down three big steps followed by a very steep loose climb, then the bit at the end where you cross the cattle grate.

off to wales for my stag doo this weekend

cwmcarn saturday and FOD on sunday

done the xc loop at cwmcarn before, so plan to do another one
whats the DH like? doubt that we will be able to use the uplift - is it worth the long walk? pretty confident riders, but only on a normal trail bikes (wont be jumping 50ft gaps or anything :p)

also whats fod like?

a 7 mile trail and 2 mile trail and some dh runs? again is the dh stuff fairly safe? is it worth doing both the 7 mile and 2 mile jobbies?

also hows the mud levels - anyone been to either of these two in the last week?

cheers

FoD is pretty good. Decent facilities and the Verderers (Blue) trail has an epic final descent. It's worth going for that alone. The Red 2 mile trail is the worst red trail I've ever ridden, a complete waste of time. Not tried the DH and FR stuff but they look like fun.

FOD is great fun and like ROB said above, the final descent on the XC is good.
The XC loop it self aint great, but you can have a go at the DH runs too while you're there, all of them entirely doable on any bike.

Cwmcarn; A great XC and DH track. Worth the push up for a go of it yes if you have time.. shouldnt take more than 20mins to ride to the top if you're fit.
FOD is also great, plenty to do. Like others have said the XC loop is a bit poo, it's all about the DH tracks and final bit of the XC loops... theres loads of hidden tracks around FOD and you also have the dirtjumps over by Broadwell Dips.

It's been quite cold here the last week so everything should be dry and hard come the weekend if we don't have any rain (none forecast at the mo)

Not sure if this thread is the place to ask? Basically the rear hub/wheel of my mountain bike has started to get a problem.
It's really annoying and potentially dangerous (but I'm on quiet roads for the majority of the time so for the moment it's ok).
I know the main parts of a bike but nothing in detail.

So for most of the time (just), when the pedals turn, the wheel turns.
However, the other times, the pedals spin and it doesn't turn the wheel.
Also, if I'm walking with the bike, the pedals turn when the wheel turns.
Any idea what my problem is?

I was thinking of getting some secktor rl but lowering them to 130 for my trek, do the spacers come with them as i can't see them listed as a spare part?

Don't really want to buy a specific 130 fork as I'd like to not have to replace if/when I get more travel at the back.
