*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

It's all about CBL now brah!
On a more serious note if what you done in the past worked for you then why change it.

Can't seem to find the diet/nutrition thread? certain that there was one?

Looking at the changes necessary for my diet in about two months when I trim up a bit. The last time I did anything properly it was based around a ketosis style diet & carb cycling. Keeping carbs low with protein & fats high. Is this still advisable or has 'the norm' changed since 3- 4 years ago?

I do 6 meals per day but use the -30/-10 approach, so -10 on training days below maintenance and -30 below maintenance on rest day.

I use the IF calculator.

Edit: I used to do IF properly, but in the end i found i preferred 6 meals, so i use IF methods, just not the fasting part.

Thanks, my search skillz are lacking.

CBL this and CBL that! I'll read up on it tonight. I use the IF principles regularly even if on the odd occasion my diet gets a bit dirty for a few days.

That said there's a link to my cutting effort in my DC log, it was tough but worked. I generally stay leaner nowadays thanks to IF and just generally more mass so perhaps you're right and I should stick to what I know.

In short is CBL effectively less frequent carb cycling? but dumping the motherload of carbs in when you do?

Edit: [sillyquestion]I'm guessing that most of the CBL followers haven't bought the book as my googling suggests is advisable'[/sillyquestion]

Thanks, will checkout the IF calculator. I found 2 or 3 large meals is the sweetspot for me. :)

It's a good calculator, but i do 50/50 for fat and carbs on both days, no low carb or low fat.

Ask on the FB group about the book ;)

Dips are bad times for me re: shoulder snap city. The station at my gym is completely unadjustable which doesn't help, puts ms well in snap city. I find BB better than DB aswell because you can sort your scaps/back out before the movement starts, maybe if you had those DB hanger things. I think the king of upper body pressing might be weighted push-ups tbh, with handles.

Most people go far too deep on dips for what their shoulders can handle, if your shoulders can't handle the depth just don't do it or don't go as deep

The alternative is ring dips.

Whilst you might say "lolwutstabilising?!?!?!" the movement allows the shoulder to assume a better position because your hands can move. As such, it's notionally a 'better' movement.

Doesn't make it easy, or reduce the risk of snapping because you can't stabilise, mind. :D

Ring dips are fantastic for shoulder stability. You can go deep and your arms will naturally flare out or compensate on rings owing to it not being fixed (obviously).

However, it is a humbling exercise, but even just practising holding yourself in the "upright" position is fantastic for shoulder work.

There are lots of shoulder stability workouts that should be done IMO - it's a fragile and abused joint.

weighted pushups on DBs are good and great for core!

ok...so ive heard so much about CBL now :) ...anyone got a decent link to read about it? Im not into paying for the CBL online book.

So true.

I used my rings for the first time today. I managed one dip, and then spent about a minute with my arms just straight, trying to find stable balance.

For now, I'm just going to try using it to help stabilise.
