Tomb Raider Thread

For 500 series GPUs and earlier 314.14 is currently the best, for 600 series (other than fermi mobile based) well your a bit stuffed at the moment - tho there is the trick with deleting the tombraider profile and replacing it with a copy of the hitman one that might help temporarily.

Enjoying the game until the "event" moments, where it's buggy as hell. It took me forever to get pass the "escape" part because it didn't tell you what key to press to finally end it.

The "wolf" part.. again, it doesn't tell you what to do for the final bit and now it doesn't matter if I mash left and right, I die.

Lads, this is official response from Nvidia:

'We are aware of major performance and stability issues with GeForce GPUs running Tomb Raider with maximum settings. Unfortunately, NVIDIA didn’t receive final code until this past weekend which substantially decreased stability, image quality and performance over a build we were previously provided. We are working closely with Crystal Dynamics to address and resolve all game issues as quickly as possible.
In the meantime, we would like to apologize to GeForce users that are not able to have a great experience playing Tomb Raider, as they have come to expect with all of their favorite PC games'

It's fair comment, I know the games mags didn't get a review copy until release day. I suggest we all go back to Crysis 3 / Skyrim / Sleeping Dogs / whatever is floating your boat until these issues are resolved. They will be, and when they are, it will be an immense game to show your rig off.

Does anyone find it strange that you can't crouch? I mean i can forgive that she can't do loads of acrobatics like the previous as its a reboot and may be she learns that in future games!
But i don't like how the crouching is automatic its taken out of your hands.

I've got as far as trying to get the gun and I still get killed even with pressing F. Do I need to mash it or something when I'm on the floor? I just don't get it :S

If you see a reducing circle with an x in it, then you need to hit the 'F' key (use). If its a icon with a hand outline its the 'E' key (grab)

Also on the reducing circle one, I think you have to wait till the reducing circle goes within the large fixed circle also displayed before hitting the key. So its not just a matter of mashing the key, you need to time it slightly too.

Wow why werent Nvida given final code in time? thats quite poor, they didnt give an ETA for a new driver either, guessing it could be a couple of weeks.

In the mean time turn your settings down to high. That works.

About 70-80% through and very impressed so far, really enjoying the story as well as the gameplay. The only downers are a few too many QTE's and the lack of proper puzzles, I've done about 8 of the secret tombs and they're neither well hidden or challenging (each of them has one "trick" and then it's over). Those minor gripes aside, it's a great reboot of the series and the prospect of a sequel with a bit more actual tomb raiding has me quite excited.

I invested over a grand specifically for high end DX11 games like this and a few others. Thanks to the Steam Xmas Sales, I've got a handfull of other games I haven't even installed yet, let alone completed. I think i'll give those a go until TR gets sorted.

After mashing left/right you then have to hit the use key (F) multiple times in time to stab the beast.

Using the xbox gamepad, I never had any issues with the display of QTE keys.

enjoying it so far, my trusty old i7 920 and 7970 has this game cranked up to everything on ultra and running sweet as a nut, looks very nice indeed, ive give up looking at the fps because if it runs and plays ok and looks good then im happy with that

Sounds like it has a lot of issues and effects missing on nvidia gpu's. coupled with a distinct lack of any actual tombs or raiding of aforementioned tombs, I'm pretty glad I gave this a miss.

Edit: But it has nice hair I'm told

I've really enjoyed it, but come to think of it, I've not noticed any lens flares or effects on screen - didn't think about till it was mentioned..

I really do not want to say this, as I've enjoyed it, but there does seem to be quite a few issues now starting to be reported, this game is in need of patches.

Worse is, they've released a patch, and it broke save profiles, and then got removed. Was this why review code was not released for PC, the port wasn't ready on time, they'll fix this game, but seems it was released to PC gamers not completely finished??

shame, such a great game.

Don't let what others are saying change your opinion of the game, you clearly enjoyed it from the look of your post.

You just get to enjoy it even more when you play it through again once it has been patched up.

yep ive only have one issue and that was when i fist started game on the default settings . i then changed them and started again but some textures were over lapping. a quick restart did cure this and no problems ever since.

time for another quick go

Lara sure can take a beating, anyone else would have broken every bone in their body so far going by the cutscenes. Not sure why every game these days feels the need to add some lame skills and item upgrade system, combined with a wallhack 'instinct' mode. Apart from that I'm enjoying it - runs smoothly, looks pretty and enough of a story to keep me interested.
