*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

Don't worry about the weight gain, it will most likely be as you said, noob gains and no more smoking. How tall are you?

I did lots of cardio today, 2 sessions throughout the day followed by my usual HST routine in the weights bay after. Combine this with a congested chest and I am knocked for six, actually shuffling around tesco in a dreamy daze pining for something sugary (I didn't succumb to the crave). Yes, my vagina hurts.

Right, what about the shorter one then? Must be half the olympic but no way is it 5kg... when you bench do you only count the weight added or both barbell + weights?

My other bar (6ft) is 15 kg so I'd say 7.5/10 :)

That feels when it's finally warm enough to squat in shorts....and then have them rip at the bottom of your squat :/

I always thought the shorter bars were 15kg and the EZ bar was 10kg.

thanks for the answers, yeah thats what i thougth too! the reason i've asked is i did my shoulder press with 35kg set bar and had no problems with 5x5, on the next day i increased the weight to 37.5kg like im meant to but obviously moved to a bar + weights so i left it this way - 10kg bar + 2x10kg plates + 2x2.5 plates and 2x1.25kg plates and i had a HARD time pushing it, failed on the last rep on last set too! so now im questioning it in a way.. is the bar 15 kg or is it 7.5! if it was 7.5 how comes i found it so hard, if its 15kg then it explains a lot and im leaning towards 15kg tbh

Does anyone here attribute being ill a lot to time spent in the gym? Obviously the gym is a germy environment and working out beats up the immune system... but i just seem to get one Cold after another at the moment. It's getting beyond a joke.

It's not overtraining as i've barely been pushing myself these last few months due to tendonitis. I gave up smoking eight months ago when i started back at the gym. I've heard of other people getting sick a lot after giving up, but maybe that has more to do with being in the gym itself than the giving up smoking per se. Just bad luck maybe or should i be concerned?

It's probably someone either in the gym, work or home that's carrying that bug.

Only time I've gotten sick at the gym is after I could hear and see someone with the flu coughing and spluttering around in there and on the treadmil.

A day later I had an itchy throat, after that sick as a dog. I rarely get sick though.

Heyfever is the real killer for me, and training.

My gym is always packed and there's always people coughing and spluttering. It is Hayfever season i suppose although it doesn't feel like that. It's not exactly 'high pollen' weather atm either.

It's far more likely down to poor diet than picking up germs at the gym.

Diet is good. All fresh foods, fruit and veg aplenty.

I find once I've got a cold it's hangs around for while, coming and going. I think it's down to hammering myself in the gym and not allowing my body to give much energy to fighting colds.
