I have an answer to this problem, which well has it's own draw backs.
Raw Garlic. (Must be raw) 2-4 large cloves a day. Honestly I don't think 'I' have heared of a food source with so much medicinal benefits.
Just one of it's properties is antibacterial. According to what I read, it has the same potency as a weak penicilin antibiotic. But it does something that no known man made antibiotic can do. That is it not only turns your body in to an unfertile zone for bacteria and virus to grow but does not contribute to bacteria (not sure about viruses) being able to evolve in to stronger and more resitant strains.
No known man made antibiotic can do that on the planet!
Down side, is you will stink.....
Lets put it this way, if I eat 3 large cloves at 9pm, after breakfast and some chewing gum in the morning, no more stink!
(Maybe not so good, if your looking for some nooky action tho, so best avoided!)
This is not to say you wont get ill. But fingers crossed, you will get ill less frequently, not as easily and when you do catch something, it wont last as long or be as severe.
It really is a super little stinky food. Some people try an combat the stink by using supplements, but I think thats a minefield to know what to take abit like creatine is.
Stick with raw cloves and you cant go wrong. Just dont cook them, as cooking turns off the antibactirial/antiseptic properties of garlic.
(All of the above, is what I have gathered from reading up about it on the web over the years by the way!)

Oh and the other property that will be of interest to you guys is supposedly it also raises testoterone levels!!
