Did the WAH assessment course the other week, climbing in a blizzard aint too much fun, looking forward to it though, a week away from unit and the pleasure of RAF food, plus there loads of fitties on that base.

I love being busy, courses galore! as it stands i'll be back at camp for 1 week before summer leave:D





I thought that place was closing down, as an ATR at least, i was down there last summer for some pre olympic training and they wernt taking in anymore intakes, the place was like a ghost town apart from the olympic lot.

I done the 3 day course, just 30m. Good fun and they are all good guys down there, nice and relaxed.

I was sick as a dog doing it, like actually ill and still managed it. It's a good course, you'll enjoy it.

Though if its the big *** course your doing, then well good luck! They were telling us, even some of the huge SF guys were failing it! :eek:

5 day cortez course, 20m mast in the corner.
I dont mind heights but theres not a chance in hell i'm going up stenigot:eek::eek::eek:

Not the only way no, there is also AIP(accelerated incremental progression) you may be awarded AIP's for completing certain qualifications.
your unit clerk should be aware of any AIP that they need to action and you will see an increment level increase for each one.

check the bottom left box of your payslips, there will be a bit of text along the lines of AIP available - 0(or 1 if it hasnt been actioned)

However, you can jump a level by using an Advanced Increment in Pay (AIP). You can acquire these by completing a recognised qualification that is accepted to be beneficial to your job. For example, I did a nice easy IT qualification and this jumped my pay level up one. You are limited to just 2 of these throughout your military career though, so use them wisely :)

Stenigot isn't too bad, but that's part of your initial riggers assessment, not the actual riggers course.
I did the full package, wasn't too bad. The Cortez mast isa pain to climb though, much preferred the other masts. It'a good when you go out to Afghan though if you do some rigging in Bastion, get some good views. I did the mast in Afghan, when there was a sniper threat.. Our boss, who was meant to check with J2 didn't bother, so I had no idea, until afterwards.

The big ****** in lash? I know i felt sorry for the guys who had to climb up there! I'm sure we had some P2P's up there.

The mast that was in the corner near the front and left of the camp walls is the one I rigged on most, that was full of our P2P radios. There was the other big mast near it that had some GSM P2P radios on them, didn't go up that much though.

i very much doubt it unless you have some special ceremonial duties, either 2's or PCS, i dont think there are enough sets of 1's kicking about the system to make up the numbers.
i'm on course next week, so doubt i'll have anything to do with it.
 
Where possible, personnel will be chosen from ships, units and stations connected to those who served during the Falklands Campaign. They will be supported by one Army officer and a warrant officer.

The processional route will be from St Clement Danes Church to St Paul’s Cathedral. Lining the route will be personnel from the:
Royal Navy and Royal Marines
Scots Guards (F Company)
1st Battalion Welsh Guards
Royal Air Force
 
I won't be, I will however be in London on the Wednesday, but unfortunately flying out of Gatwick late afternoon, so not sure if I'll have time to attend with some of the things I have to do first, plus I don't think my girlfriend would appreciate being in tow, even more so due to us flying out of Gatwick for her own grandmothers funeral on the Thursday.

What do you mean there aren't enough sets of number 1s?

Strange.

Is the problem that they were never given any or that they no longer fit? I've not heard of people going without them altogether before.

Mine no longer fit and apparently the contract that deals with the supply of number 1s no longer let's clothing stores hold them. They come round each camp every 6 months to measure and fit people who need them which to me is ludicrous.
 
I think most units don't get issued them. I know the signals certainly don't unless you're on the white helmets display team or some other such "ceremonial" unit.
I got mine for my wedding from a kindly tailoress in Blandford and was lucky they had some that fitted me.

yep i'm not aware of any arty units that have them issued, its a case of try your best to source a set when something comes up, then have them tailored.
