After ringing a family member I will retract on the first point.
He said he never knew of anybody being employed at his pit who wasn't family or who hadn't been recommended by a friend. When he was an Apprentice in 76 all the 40 Apprentices had Dads or brothers working there.

The second point is really not that hard to believe since the country is full of no go areas for outsiders. If you don't know this then you must live in a bubble.
 
RIP to a remarkable lady.

It always seemed to me that she got the blame for everything....... I mean Labour never ever shut a pit while they were in power, did they Harold Wilson?

Every post you make just reeks of the desperation tactics that someone loosing an argument on the internet would resort to. I also despise some of the turns of phrases you use and lack of punctuation, but this is extraneous. In stark contrast to some of the posts you've made so far, Dimple has at least demonstrated elements of integrity, honesty and genuineness in his consistent posting style which does lend itself to a degree of credence. I might be completely wrong.

Please stop this lame attempt at restoring your ego by continuing with this pointless argument or I might be inclined to agree with Dimple and start feeling that the miners deserved what Thatcher did all along.

100% agree, constantly saying there is no substance or basis to everyone else's posts whilst having none whatsoever in his own.

I've read somewhere that the Wilson Government closed a pit a week.

Scargill was a communist, end of. He consolidated a power base over many years and was spoiling for a fight. Unfortunately he picked it with the wrong person. Hundreds of thousands of people suffered for his ridiculous ego.

Scargill as PM? LOL. No thanks.

I`ll believe it when he proves it. Any reasonable person would agree that the onus is on the poster to prove these claims. In addition, no way have four people agreed on EVERYTHING he has claimed, and you know that so why would you be disingenuous?, I DO think there may be a reason for these allegations in there, however no one has offered it yet so I will..... I remember there were tales back then of miners in Nottinghamshire making huge bonuses etc as they had a modern mine and easy coal so to speak, this may have some truth in it BUT it IS ridiculous to say all miners were "greedy" and made ridiculously high wages, the post is hyperbole derived from local hearsay muddled by thirty years, not to mention the motive for posting such drivel, but hey your reasoned thought has arrived at your truth :-)

I think you're being a bit uppity there. I think it was more likely a reference to the rose being used in the Labour party logo.

It belongs to people of all parties and of none.

Evil? That's a bit strong. She's a polarising character for certain. But Evil? I think not.

By all means disagree with her policies but don't insult the person.

Will you stop already? Seriously? Miners got paid higher than average wages in some pits and they probably deserved every penny for being such skilled workers and putting their lives at great risk. Dimple probably said "greedy" with tongue firmly in cheek. Can we please make it stop. Stop stop stop. :( *Cries.

I think he used the word retract incorrectly considering the sentence after it was fully confirming the point he made earlier... replace 'retract' with 'expand.'
