I appreciate that it could be Lordosis, but I've been this way forever. Surely a little kid can't have postural problems?

Also I'm not sure I trust the physio anymore :p

They can and do :) No reason why they can't have bad posture...Hell, how many kids do you see slouching on the sofa for instance?

You could even be born with some kind of lordosis tilt at a guess? :confused:

Also, this happened

Amazing how little fuss there is, just 10 reps at a huge weight like it ain't no thing.

MODS: if this is a medical post, let me know or delete it. I don't think it is.

I think you're still on the right side of the line but I'd appreciate if people didn't take it too much further. The basic advice is that TheCenturion should see a specialist.

No more pain also :)

guys,
I have lost some weight recently - 11kg in 2months.
Have access to gym and can go there for 30-60mins a day.
Want to try and turn remaining fat in to some muscles ;) mostly in upper part of the body - chest arms and get some extra strength. I would like to strengthen my lower back as well if possible - back = belly muscles ? need to get them in form for sure
should I be doing sets of more reps with lower weights or less reps with heavier weights ?

and what would be best basic exercises for my back ?
need to do plenty sit-ups that's for sure
Gym is pretty new and full of all kinds of machinery ;)

Thanks

assuming right and Thanks

No worries! Just bear in mind your post was full of things that make people with any gym experience whatsoever go "hmmmm..." including:

- Fat into muscle (not physiologically possible);
- Only wanting to work arms and chest (that's not going to help you look good or be strong);
- lower back strength does not equal belly muscles (would you use your toes to bicep curl? ;) );
- machines are for people that don't know what they're doing and are happy in their willful ignorance.
- Training for size and strength are two different things (as a noob, however, you can get the benefits of both for a few months).

These cover around 90% of your post, so you can see why people (including myself) may be wary of your questions. ;) :D

If you have any further questions (other than "that's all great, I've done all my reading, but how do I get bigger arms?"), then there are a lot of very experienced lifters and even strength/conditioning coaches (and recently the U105 UK Strongman Champion) on here, so you can get a lot of help if you're willing to learn. :)

Remember that obese guy you saw that one time, all flab and moobs, then you don't see him for a couple months and suddenly he's turned into the Hulk.... No?? Me neither.

Fast forward 10-15 years, severe chronic lumbar pain, rubbish doctors, chiropractors and osteopaths, I found a decent physio and coach who actually helped me. Three months (and a shedload of remedial work) later the problem was no longer a problem. I unconsciously keep my pelvis in the neutral position when moving/sitting/etc. which was REALLY hard work, but infinitely worth it.

Cheers bud. I tried googling for fixing lordosis but I don't think there's a lot of helpful info, especially as the first link is a StrongLifts link.

Looks like I'll have to take a gamble and hope I get a decent physio. What work did you do to fix your posture and pelvic tilt etc?

Start off by doing physical corrections on yourself, ie notice when you are doing it and put yourself in to the correct position. You should be able to tilt your pelvis, if not...probably not good news :p

Furious this morning. Started the 5x5 program and have been following it religiously. Today, I start my squats and a guy comes up to me and starts talking about my form. I was grateful for this until he showed me his squat and it looked nothing like what I had seen elsewhere.

I then told him that I was following a strength training program called stronglifts 5x5 to which he replied that "that won't get you big, you need to do a major then a minor then a major etc, etc.

After I'd done my squats, I went to the bike to wait for him to go. 20 minutes later He had gone. thus, I started my overhead press. He stood next to me with weights for bicep curls and said "major, minor!" so I told him that I was leaving.

I went to the bike again to wait but, within a minute he had come up to me and "told me the bike won't make you big" so I left the gym.

All my mates say interrupts their own routines some of which, have been going for years. He was really annoying and has ruined my day.

Forgot to mention that he reckons he squats 200KG. He must have weighed around 60KG. So annoyed.

Don't let idiots put you off - he's got different goals to you so I'd suggest you just ignore him. You can be polite about it and explain that you're following a plan that suits you or just flat out ignore him until he goes away but I'd suggest if you want to achieve your goals you'll need to be able to tune out people who aren't helping.

Another option is to challenge him to do his apparent 200kg squat ATG and while he's stuggling about with that go off and do your own thing.
