The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Got this today as my working drive, to run in RAID 1.

It actually benches about 100mb/s read and write in RAID 1 (I didn't test it in RAID 0, not that it matters as it won't be used in that config). The Seagate USB 3.0 that it replaces benches 180mb/s !

So much for Thunderbolt ! I bet they put in a 5400rpm or something as I know the Seagate has a 7200rpm drive.

Still not bad tbh :) faster than the USB 3 pen drive I have

Came today!

Pretty pleased with some of the photos I've taken with it so far.

I had the sigma 18-200mm f3.5-5.6, I totally agree, it sounded like a rusty chainsaw starting up but it was my work horse for a couple of years!

@Number25, My best friend still uses the tamron 70-300mm and swears by it, he did take some awesome shots at kew earlier this year, the macro function worked quite well. You will be happy with your purchase :)

Ok so yesterday I was as sick as a dog so I didn't go to work but I'm back now and my sigma 35mm is in my hands...... Omg the build quality feels emmence! I can't get over the weight. The focus ring is so smooth.

On another note the courier tried to deliver my redsnapper at 17:05 last night........ When my branch is closed!

Good things come to those who wait :)

Ahhhh the Tamron 70-300. Everyones first telephoto! :p

Not me! Mine was the dreaded Sigma 18-200 with the fake red ring :D

One does not simply post about such a new lens and forget to post pics/samples!

Also, nice :D

Ordered on Sunday and arrived today!

I hesitated about this lens purchase while waiting for it to come back in stock at Onestop. I wondered if I really needed it. But looking over the photozone review a few times fixed that, the corner to corner sharpness at all apertures is something that's extremely appealing in such a relatively light on the wallet lens. Sigma's 85mm offering caught my eye but at nearly three times the cost hrmm, I can live with the aperture blades not being circular! :p

Seems like I have a decent copy, very very sharp!

They say this lens absolutely shines on full frame and I think after the weekend I'll agree with that statement. :)

I picked one up second hand shortly after getting my 5D mkii and couldn't be happier it really is a lovely lens and I've yet to be overly annoyed by the aperture mainly bacuase I don't think I've used it past f2.8!

It is a lovely lens. I paid £260 for it and I'm happy with that, in fact I call it a bargain. It does suffer from CA but that's easily fixed. The corner to corner sharpness is just so damn good, it triumphs many other lenses at the sharpness game.

The CA's can be a pain wide open but even stopped down to f2 they are much improved. It's not so much the corner to corner sharpness that I love as the shallow DOF it really does make an exceelent portrait lens. I got mine to replace a 50mm f1.8 that I'd used for similar images on a crop and was blown away by the improvement of an 85mm f1.8 combined with a full frame sensor. Like you I was tempted by the sigma but it's just so much money for not a massive improvement.

Please for the love of god don't judge me about my free digitalrev goodies......... they were free after all :)

The first thing i noticed about the sigma is the lovely focus ring, its so large with great grip and very smooth.
The over all quality is 10 times that of previous lenses, i have to say i wont be able to get out with it until this weekend but just a few shots indoors has sent me in to a bokeh induced coma!

I am so impressed with the snapper, the quality is great and the ball head is so silky smooth.

I was going to have a rant because i read the the tripod comes with a shorter central column but mine didnt....... that was until i looked in the awesome shoulder bag and found an internal with it and the tools in :)

**FYI** images shot with 35mm @ 1.4 bokehlicious

The ball head looks small on that, that's the RSH12 isn't it? On my RS324 the head I swear looked bigger! The 7049 head is even bigger still even though it's lighter (yet stronger):

Sadly I took parts off my RSH12 to fit onto the CF tripod head (mounting base) and binned the RSH12 so can't directly compare.
