The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

I have also come from a 40D after a line of 20D, 30D 350D & 40D

Its another league of a machine.

Its the 85mm F1.2

It really does feel like a different class in comparison. I also splurged out on a 70-200 lens and they're a superb combination, not quite as large or heavy as I thought it would be.

But that 85mm lens does look big though!

Backup D800 arrived today to join the other 2, as well as Tamron 24-70. The Tamron is going back though as it's faulty, which is a shame as it showed allot of promise. :(

I shoot weddings with prime lenses. I use 2 camera's when shooting a wedding. Therefore if one camera goes down or I need to send it in for a service, I would be like a fish out of water with just one cam. So for me to have sufficient redundancy, I need 3 bodies.

That 24-70 looks MASSIVE!

Yeh it is actually quite hefty. Unfortunately the aperture does not work properly, so it's going back. Also the VC was a little disappointing. It worked well in that I could get sharp pictures racked out to 70mm at 1/4 of a second, but it takes a second or two for the VC to kick in when I half press the shutter. If I press the shutter and the camera focuses and releases the shutter before the VC has had time to kick in, I end up with a blurry image. Is this normal with stabilised lenses?

It's about a second, so unless the lens takes longer than a second to focus, VC is useless. So if you take more than one picture from a similar focus distance, if you pause too long between shot's, then when you press the shutter, VC isn't active.

Been reading on google, and supposedly this is 'normal' for Tamrons VC

sounds very poor IMO

I'm just in the process of switching back to the M 4/3 system as I've just found the D600 to big and heavy and it puts me off carrying it around.

Got the OMD EM5 again but on the last day of the free lens and battery offer, just as they dropped the price to £950 :D

Just need to sell the D600 and all the stuff now so I can afford a couple of lenses, but really interested on how you get on with this one.

Just got back from Vietnam and not processed anything yet, but my experience with the lens was great. So much so that I'm considering if the 35-100 2.8 is worth the investment too :)

I took this lens plus the 45-200, 3 batteries and card plus charger. Everything went in the Passport Sling bag with bags of room for bottle of water and glasses etc. Very pleased with both purchases.

Not exactly a camera or a lens but I will be using it for night photography. I had been using a single AA LED Flashlight but holding it my teeth while setting up shots was getting a bit old, so grabbing this for £5 is a bargain.
