iRacing

Been meaning to get back into this and since the season has just ended I guess now would be the perfect time! Now I just need to decide what car to drive.

iRacing name is Shane Pateman for anyone who cares :p We should get an OCUK race going sometime!

Every race!!! Every race so far some muppet has either intentionally crashed into me or taken a corner stupidly and wiped me out. So disheartening after racing for 20mins to have someone do that in the last few laps, ruin your race and wreck your SR. I was above 3.0 SR and should have just waited for promotion but am now back down to 2.8 and need to try and get above 3 before Monday.

One race I made it to top 10 and was having a great time. 5 laps left and on a long straight racing next to another guy who decides to side swipe me, I hit the grass, spin, roll and crash. The SR rating really needs to pick on the people causing the accidents or the reporting system needs upgrading so that intentionally toxic players get banned. They say to submit replays in the report email but the replays are 200mb in size!!!

Yeah, I was doing a race yesterday where I was first place and a back marker decided that he wanted to ruin my race and crashed right into me.

You can use the edit button form in game and just upload the incident you want to report.

It's week 13 so any official race is full of drivers trying desperately to increase their SR in a bid to get the next promotion. So really your finishing position isn't as critical as being clean. It's something you have to live with in iRacing, I find it's better to give aggressive drivers a wide berth and let them past. You always end up re passing them when they've either gone off or taken someone and themselves out. It's the same with back markers, give them as much room as possible, assume they are going to do the worst and just let them go or pass them further around the lap in a safer place.

Or avoid week 13 official races altogether.

Yeah I usually get caught up trying to race or hold my position if I am in the top 5. I'll need to start just trying to finish races without any incidents.

I did notice that when I spectated part of a race you did at Laguna, while I was waiting for my race to start.

You were quick and from when I started watching you were in 5th place. You made a place up and the guy you passed did a decent job of keeping up, he made up time on certain parts of the track, but in others you were quicker.

That's when you started to get a bit ragged, going off track a few times, kicking up the dust and no doubt picking up "Inc" along the way.

The guy in 6th was just sitting back and waiting for you two to take each other out.

I think I remember that he got past both of you and then you had a decent battle with him until you attempted a pass into the "Corkscrew" which ended up with both off you going off and then your car was too damaged to continue and you quit the game.

It's difficult not to race sometimes, because after all it is a racing game. But if you're doing week 13 races to gain promotion, then finishing clean is better than racing and crashing.

Yeah, I'm not really used to close racing with other cars since in most other racing games you either get taken out or they get away pretty much instantly, so I start messing up a lot when under pressure :p I'm starting to get a bit better at racing along beside someone and leaving them room though.

The current oval track is awesome! After my earlier incidents I have up on road racing until tomorrow when a different track is about.

Spent all evening doing oval races and playing with settings. I just start in the pits with the aim of getting my SR up and just follow the pack from behind as they knock each other out. Up at 3.6 SR for oval now so leaving it for the promotion. Felt bad for number 1 in the last race. A few laps left and someone takes him out!

Day of road racing tomorrow as SR is 2.8 and need it above 3. I think it's Lime Rock tomorrow so a much easier track than today's one.

Are promotions only once a season, or if you get SR up to 4 you get insta promoted? How SR is calculated is weird. I had 0.57 increase in one race and 0.05 in another both with no incidents!

Yes and yes, though that might only apply to get out of rookie class.

I don't know exactly but I think the strength of the field and your start and finish position have the most influence.

You can fast track to the next license (including rookie to D class) if you get your SR above 4.0 and have the min participation ( 4 TT's or 2 races )

3.9.1.Fast Track: Drivers having earned a 4.00 Safety Rating at any point during the
season and having met the MPR will be promoted to the next higher license level.
3.9.2.End of Season: Drivers having earned a 3.00 Safety Rating during the course of a
season will be promoted to the next higher license level at the conclusion of that
season (provided the minimum participation requirement is met).

Just had an awesome race around Jefferson Reverse where I started in the pits and worked my way up to second. Was following the leader for around 10 laps I think it was but couldn't get past in the end. He was a Class B I guess.

Got the fastest lap though! :D

Good job this race was unofficial, otherwise I think a protest would have been

What do you use for snipping and recording replays out of interest?

I'm 3.5 SR in both oval and track now so taking a break for a day until season 2 starts. Had a great race earlier and managed to get down to 5th but a guy tried overtaking on a long corner and took me out :( Gutted!

What difference does a season have? It's one track a week I believe? Other than that is it still the same - ie you get really high class people in the same race as you meaning a podium finish for new guys is unlikely? Or are races locked down by class and more evenly matched? I had two races today with a Class A player who has 100s of wins. He was ridiculously good both times and a bit pointless even trying to race.

My play at the minute is to just getting into Class D so I can race some new cars. I'm getting quite close to the auto promotion actually.

Really want to race the Skip Barber cars..

Yeah I have enough SR to be promoted on Tuesday to the level up from rookie - I think that's D or rookie advanced? I'm going to stick to practice sessions until then! I actually find practice sessions a lot more fun than the actual races. You get to go up against other people and really push the car without the stress of SR loss if you happen to slide off on a corner when you're going round on two wheels :D

Yeah, I'm sure its Class D. Practice sessions are pretty fun since you can race with people and push the car to its limits without really getting annoyed if you get taken out or crash.

I'd still report that and everything else in week 13 as far as Im aware the idiots still get looked at a marker placed on there accounts and in extreme cases banned.

Week 13 is meant to be fun not frustrating and full of idiots with more money than Skill.

Also guys Ill add the new names later, maybe we should get a host session on this evening with the MX5, MP4 and the Radical. That way everyone gets to try the cars this place drives the most. Wouldnt mind doing a OCUK hosted session/race.

Not sure if I got any credits left if i do ill get one up.

Just watch this in the actual season sure fire way to pee some people off. Dont get me wrong I like racing people in practice, but sometimes I'm there doing a 50 minute race fuel test a good 45 minutes into it when all of a sudden a Rookie exits the pits and thinks its a great idea to race me not knowing im on worn tires. and trying to test race distance bam, he over cooks it, hits me in the backside taking me out and wasting 40 minutes of my life...;)

Don't be that guy.

Just went from starting in the pits to winning :D Felt pretty great. My SR is now up to 3.98, hopefully only one more race till Class D.

Edit : Got promoted :D Apparently I'm ready for promotion to Class C though?
