Siliconslave's how to make espresso thread

Pressure turned down a little (although the needle was shaky as hell on the gauge while the machine was running its now shaking around 10 rather than around 12).

Hamster's great traveling valve is now packed up and will be winging its way to machester tomorrow to a FrenchTart :D

In a way of thanks i give you the first animated GIF i've made for about 10 years:
coffee_zps9bcdb05d.gif

Blimey, you don't hang about! I found that if you don't put water in the gauge before attaching the PF to the group, it doesn't shake. Someone on coffeeforums tried it with their gauge and suggested it.

Hrm... The guides I read suggested that you prefilled the basket but yes if you don't prefill the vibrations from the pump aren't transmitted.

I guess the air in the chamber may dampen the vibrations but I gave up on fluid dynamics way before I got to the point of understanding if it would make a difference to the pressure reading

Looks delicious. I wish it wasn't so late in the day - I'd love another coffee after seeing that.

Looking forward to receiving the gauge :)

It was too late for me too, slightly wired now :D might have to break out the bottomless pf for some more gifs next time I'm working from home!

That is a great gif!

I have pressure modified and fitted the steam wand to my gaggia. So much better than stock.

I'm currently enjoying a bag of beans from bonanza coffee from my trip to Berlin. They had a fantastic shop, roasted by hand in store. One of the nicest blends I have tested, very smooth and balanced.

What is everyone else currently drinking?

Was a good first session of the WBC. I've managed to watch a large majority of it.

Pressure mod completed over the weekend. Definite improvement in shots though that's at least in part to spending some time testing and dialing in my grinder. Many thanks for the loan :)

I'll drop a message to haz_pro today /re sending it off to him.

Been using a cafetiere for a while, but got an aeropress today. Just made my 1st cup using the inverted method. Was concerned about having to top up with hot water to make a full cup, thinking it might be a little weak, but it came out lovely!
Great gadget.:)

The AP indeed is a godsend for those with no room/money for the proper gear! :p

Speaking of which. I'm getting really bored of hand-grinding my beans with my Skerton. Are there any small/hand-held grinders that people could recommend for use solely with an AP?

I had some of the Square Mile sweetshop espresso beans recently and they were so hard to grind by hand I almost chucked them away!

I know I'm not going to be able to get a decent burr grinder, but surely with an AP I'll survive? A friend of mine has some sort of mini electric grinder (so surely not a burr one) which he uses with his Gaggia and he does alright

Although I won't recommend it for espresso, the Krups GVX2 is not a bad little grinder for brews. I still use it occasionally when I'm making more than a couple of AP's in one go and can't be bothered with the Lido and it's acceptable. However, see if you can pick up a cheap Baratza Maestro/Maestro Plus from ebay as that will be even better :)

I've been grinding beans every week day with my Zassenhaus for my Aero Press for 2 years and all because I know that a fantastic cup of coffee is only a couple of minutes away. Focus on the prize at the end :)!
