Forgot how bad job searching was :(

yeah im expecting some ear ache my next appointment, honestly i dont care as iv had it with them, just want to get a sia course sorted and then find out how to stop these tools getting paid when i find myself some work.

OMG holy ****

Great news but you've still got to star out all swearing. Thank you.

2.5 months after being made redundant noted in this thread...... I've landed a dream job, I've just had the CEO offer me a "Creative Director" role after the second interview.

35% more salary than my last job and much more exciting maybe 2013 wont be that bad after all :D

keep your chin up guys n gals I've been rejected for real crappy jobs making me feel useless and deflated, i sent off for at least 100 jobs and got only 5 interviews and 2 offers.

It's been an interesting 2013 for me.

I started a new job in Jan of this year working as a business analyst for a software company. First couple of weeks were great and involved a four day skiing trip in the south of France. Shortly after that trip things became extremely boring. I didn't feel as though I was doing much work.

I come from an area that involved me doing a lot of developing. An area that seldom involved doing nothing. Anyway, a while later I was contacted by a well known company..... To cut a long story short, they invited me over for a series of interviews and I ended up joing them in March.

Almost three months in now and I still feel as though I'm doing next to nothing (when compared to what I was doing pre 2013). It was then I realised that I definitely want to get back into developing.

Last weekend I came across a job, which looked great for me. So I contacted the recruiter straight away. Who went on to arrange an interview for the following week. This interview took place on Friday. I think it went okay, couldn't really tell. Really hope my experience helps to bag it.

I just want to settle down and do something I enjoy now.

Just been offered a new job as a live in chef :) Going back to what I really want to be doing after working in a bakery for the last year.
Moving into the included house on the 8/9th :) then start on the 10th. Cant wait :D

Still waiting to here back about a job interview I went for about two weeks ago. Fingers crossed, I really hope I get it.

I hate playing the waiting game. :o

Was hoping to be starting a MoD contract job this week, but it appears the agency are having problems getting the requisite references.

Fingers crossed it's sorted soon.

How can you successfully change careers?

I'm looking up Art/Illustration type related jobs and even if I had a cracking portfolio I have no idea where I could start to even begin applying for things with NO experience there :(

start scribbling with your best crayons i guess. maybe look for charity or community projects to get some stuff out there so you have something in the real world. also look at sports teams they always enjoy getting fancy new logo's and graphics for free.

or ask at your ever helpful jobcentre :P

I'm drawing whenever I can at the moment, even at lunch times on occasion.

Heh...Job Centre, I've experienced them before, not in the least bit helpful last time I was there :(

like i said approach local charity's and amateur sports teams should get you something. sure its unpaid but its something you can flash about.

as for the jobcentre could be worse you could end up with the worse program trying to help you.

Yup, I feel your pain! I hate applying for jobs via recruitment agencies. Lately I've just been doing a bit of Google investigating to find out who their 'clients' are, and approaching the company direct.

This. I hate it especially when you see 2 or 3 recruitment companies advertising the same job and you then that it hasn't been given to just one of them.

I always feel that if it comes down to you and another candidtate and you came via a recruitment company and they came direct then unless you had something exceptional to offer, they will go with the other person in order to save thousands in recruitment fees.

On the oither hand, recruitment companies given the exclusive deal to find a person can work out well.

I had been applying for jobs and basically getting nowhere when I got approached by a recruitment company as they had seen my cv on cv-library (tip: put your cv out there as much as you can). Had 2 interviews and got the job. Better still got offered it at 5k above what the agnecy listed it as and 8k more than my old job so chuffed to bits.

That's after 5 months of job searching so to everybody still looking, don't give up.

Why are agencies so technophobic?

I've put my CV up just to see what's about as things are so quiet where I work it's beginning to get rather boring. Within the first day or so I got about 6 calls, 6 emails and 3 voicemails. I just reply to the emails asking them if they have job descriptions to hand but they constantly bleet on about "oh just call me" "call me!" etc etc.

Oh Sod off. It's 2013, I can reply to emails instantly. If I had to leave the office to return every phone call it would look more than suspicious.

the best one is "i cant send/talk about it you have to come down in person". really does get me why they cant just give a straight answer, but saying that these idiots i deal with at remploy for the work program are just as bad.

So I am getting increasingly frustrated with my Manager who is based in the US. There is no direction, clarity or anything from him. He keeps saying "I am finding it difficult to step away and do this management stuff...!" Thanks, that's my problem, sure.
It's more and more impacting my work, as I get half info, no info, bad info it's so stressful.

I'm a contractor, this is a contract, but it's a good one. I like the team and personally, my manager isn't so bad, but work wise, just painful. It's been 18months here now, which is a long old contract anyway, but the family are settled and all that.

Although, I've just submitted myself for another position in Lausanne, just on the banks of lake Geneva. The position is the head of collaboration platform. Leading the team, defining all their information architecture and best practices. Really nice contract.

I firstly applied through jobserve, I got in touch with the recruiter, had a crap call with them and a few days later, after me chasing them. I got a call to say that they weren't working on it any more. Thanks for telling me.
What was more annoying was that I had been sent the job by about 4 other recruiters in the meantime. Anyway, called one of the ones up that I've recently had a good talk with, she knows me well and she was working on it.

Application now submitted. Sits and waits.

Half of me is like, bah, stay where you are, it's not too tough just stressful at times, some decent perks, you're comfortable. The new job is a 2hr drive away. Might have to work down there all week?
Other half thinks, you're 27, stop being a ***** and man up. Chance to take something like this won't always be there. Could be a fantastic chance (contract is set to last 5yrs if I make it through the first 6 months!) and the money is crazy.

I hate this feeling of fear of change though. Rather just do it and get it done. Worry later.
