It depends on whether your old system is too slow for what you are running. If it is,it will be a decent upgrade,otherwise don't bother.

Also,remember,the initial batch of Haswell motherboards suffer from a slight USB problem IIRC,so waiting a bit longer won't be a bad idea either IMHO.

I currently have a single gtx 480 under water and currently only play at 1920x1080 and seems to handle most of the games I play at the moment but haven't really tried out any recent AAA games. It would be lovely to cut out the amount of heat my system puts out and wish to go to a mATX system and 2560x1440. Might as well wait it out to see the issues and see if any cheap ivy/ sandy chips pop up.

Most of the 5GHz overclocks are ES chips... really I think retail ought to be reviewed to show realistic results to the end user. In our review, we used retail and it prove difficult getting beyond 4.7GHz even with big volts!

Im really disappointed

I was hoping that haswell would be a good clocker which meant i could pair it with the ASRock OC Formula I wanted

It seems that Intel moving some of the voltage regulation onto the chip maybe the reason they run hot.

yeah haswell has tiny vrm inside the cpu,but its cheap paste that causes the high temps same as ivy

temps will be the limiting issue on your oc imo

Great review - thanks for posting

On the gaming benchmarks page, though, you have two copies of the Tomb Raider plot - and no Metro: Last Light plot.

Like everyone else I'm disappointed with the overclocking results coming in. I was hoping for 5Ghz being a realistic target on air - this would have made it an obvious upgrade from an aging i7-930. As it is, I'm questioning the value of the upgrade. Perhaps a jump to a 3770k (or even just to a 2600k @ 5Ghz?) would be a better bet?

Looks like I am going to be keeping my I5 760.

Going to spend the money instead on upgrading my 6870 for something like the Nvidia 770.

Will give me much better performance for gaming that's for sure.

From i7 920 Haswell looks tempting as a new toy to play with, but the next proper upgrade will be something on x99 with DDR4 for me. Was considering x79 too, but I think it's to late in its life cycle to jump on board with now.

X79 has matured yes. Still plenty of life in it.

Im feeling pretty content at the moment.

I think it's the only thing worth considering atm. Anyone building new and on a budget, the Intel core i7 4820K and a X79 mobo is easily the best option.. Either that or wait for AMD to drop SR.
