iRacing

This has been a horrible week. First race I did this week I was on for a 8th place finish which isn't too bad and I blew my engine with 3 laps to go... DNF.

Second race I was fighting with the top 3 and it was pretty intense, got into first after the leader made a small mistake and then a backmarker tried to let me past on the inside and spun into me as I was going past, finished 7th.

Third race, start of the race I was going side by side into T2 with someone and got touched(even though in the replay we didn't make contact) and that broke my car, DNF.

Just finished my fourth race and I was doing okay. I was fighting for 4th place for a while before I spun off into the gravel and then started playing catch up, was doing almost PB laps constantly and managed to get up to 5th place with 6th chasing me down, two laps to go and I spun off into the wall, DNF.

I think the pressure is really starting to get the better of me now that I'm starting to actually be racing people and having to really push for small gains where as before I would just drive along at a resonable pace without really pushing. It's insane how much sweat and how fast your heart beat gets during some of these races :p

Sonoma next week.... hate that place.

Races are getting on my nerves too, apart from the occasional someone spinning on front and getting caught up most of my problems have been myself. On a practice I can go round and round without problem, but as soon as I'm in a race even with no one around me I managed to keep going off even if it feels like I am doing the same thing, and not trying to push too hard. Just seems I keep managing to slide off in T1 far too often, very frustrating.

Wouldn't be so damn annoying if I didn't slide into the barrier and destroy the car, and then do it a second time resulting in 5-10mins of repairs.

I think its the race length thats getting me as well. I always start slipping up near the end. I'm not used to doing hour long races while being on the limit of the car. I really do love the Lotus though :p

What car are you driving? I'm sure in the rookie and d class cars you get free repairs.

MX-5

First repair is free, so first crash its just a 1m30 wait for the tow from the first turn of Lime Rock, but if I crash again and thats not a free repair (probably due to the frustration of the first crash). Tends to be in the first 5 laps I crash, then I'll cruise round for the rest of the time 1-2 seconds a lap slower as I'm not going to be gaining any places by that point.

I'm not even pushing the car that hard really, usually its laps of 1.03 - 1.04 that I'm crashing on and I can get a 1.01 if pushing hard. I'm managing to stay out of everyone's way with the crashes, just need to get more practice under the pressure of racing.

Ah okay. I was the same, it just takes practice and soon you'll be picking up top 5 finishes. Well, I still am the same now that I'm driving the Lotus 79 and with longer races :p

Edit : Just took my wheel off my desk for the first time in around 4 weeks...my desk is huge! I really hate setting it all up, its way too much effort unplugging everything and getting it back in the right position, etc. I kind of want to invest in a wheel stand but I don't really have anywhere to put that either :/

And as you say that, just had my first 2nd place finish :D

Started 2nd, and managed to stay there the whole way through finishing just under 5s behind 1st. Everyone else was very slow I'm just glad I kept it together for a whole race, can see what you mean about concentration when running at race speed, even for 20 minutes.

Hit me up on the I-racing forums and you can have my G25 for less than that. As i cant do a deal with you outside the MM on here rules are rules. But as a fellow I-racer I don't mind helping you out.

I've never actually used iRacing before, I got the 3 month promotion and I'm looking for the gear now so I can give it a shot! I'd be well chuffed to get a G25 though. :D How do I go about getting a hold of you on iRacing?

I've only done 3 road races this week, 1 each of the GT and Grand AM and 1 Grand Touring Cup. All of them at tracks I don't like, so I've been doing rookie ovals, trying to get an SR of 4.0 for a promotion before the end of the season. I reckon I've done 12-15 races and basically moved my SR on by less than 0.2.

Having fun now I have my G25 all set up with the right settings. Still playing in the novice Street Stock Ovals and gaining confidence. My laptimes are now under 37 seconds and I qualify in the top 8 normally which helps keep out of the crashes near the mid pack of the 1st lap.

Finished a few times in the top 6 which is nice.

Also been practicing in the MX5 on Lime trying to get used to that. Still can't manage 3 laps without an incident, but I am getting times around 1:02. Not going to race this yet until I can get consistent incident free laps around the 1:02 - 1:03 mark.

I actually prefer oval to road racing. Because I've never played a racing game before let alone with a wheel until a couple of months ago, my initial irating took a dive down to 800 as I learned the ropes, where to corner, etc.

Every time my road rating nears 1000 I get put in a race with someone that keeps me in the lower splits and I can't escape them. The other day I was on 999 rating and running 3rd. Some guy with a new account decided to drive the wrong way to knock the leaders off and he caused a pile up wrecking us :(

Oval on the other hand has fared better as I didn't do much oval until recently so my rating is above 1000 so I'm not in the bottom splits. I had two top 5 finishes in the Rookie Stock tonight and start in 1st position on Carburetor Cup which is great fun as its unofficial, the cars are fast and the cara at the front all buddy up, swap positions, etc. I'm going for a C licence in oval and am going to start racing the Nasar trucks in the fixed races I reckon.

It's a shame I can't get out of the rookie splits for road racing as its so frustrating to get a clean race and go up in points then have a new rookie player take you out in the next one either intentionally or whilst you are lapping! If I hadn't already bought cars I would probably start a new account tbh now I know the basics and can actually race cars without crashing all the time as you start with a 1300 irating.

I hope you submitted a protest for that?

ooo been looking at more racing games really... i see this is subscription... is there a free trial at all on this? i know it's barely anything at to pay for one month but i'd still rather know first. read someone mention about view in this game... is it only from drivers pers[perspective or are there other view available? (e.g. 3rd person, bonnet, bumper?)

also is there quite a list of cars? *fingers crossed for some Audis, hopefully A4 or the sorts xD)

You can get a 3 month trial here - https://www.cadillaccupracing.com

You can only use cockpit view and nothing else when driving.

These are all the road cars in the game

Free cars :
MX-5 Cup & Roadster
Pontiac Solstice
Spec Racer Ford
Cadillac CTS-V Racecar

Paid cars :
Chevrolet Corvette C6.R
Dallara IndyCar
Ford V8 Supercar
Ford GT
Ford Mustang FR500S
HPD ARX-01C
Kia Optima
Lotus 79
Mclaren MP4-12C
Riley Prototype
Radical SR8
Skip Barber Formula 2000
Star Mazda
Volkswagen Jetta TDI Cup
Williams-Toyota FW31

So quite a nice selection of cars although you do have to pay extra if you want but it is worth it, you won't find cars this well made in any other game :)

Anyone here tried the Kia Optima? Tempted to see what a FWD car feels like on this.

...snip...

hehe thanks for the link :D will probably give it a go this evening :D gutted there's no audis :( used to love my RS4 in NFS:Shift with its insane body kit xD

is there like a group/clan/league/cult for OCUK in game?

oh also anyone using the thrustmaster Ferrari GT experience wheel? (got mine for project cars a year ago for £19.99 x .... saw it and thought... ah why not). just wondering if there are any configuration tips for it as some games can be fussy or assign bizzare things (like putting the wheel to lock doesn;t actually turn wheels to lock in game... :\)

I've been tempted by the Kia for the same reason. But there's hardley anyone driving in the Global Challenge and the other car in that series is the Caddy and that's free. Every time I've looked this week there hasn't been anyone registered to race. That might be because the track was Zolder.

The UK&I club seem to do a BTCC style league using the Kia but it really is quite low in participation considering its rather new.

I've been looking at modding the G27 to work with the T500 F1 wheel but there isn't much information on it whatsoever, I've seen a few videos on it and it looks rather good.

I've got the Kia, not a fan :p

It is distinctly different to driving a rwd car, and I just dislike how it handles. Basically slow for the corner (car is twitchy on the brakes, but trivial to control), wait for an eternity with a tiny amount of throttle round the corner, then when you're almost straight floor it. Accelerate earlier and it just understeers, obviously, so you lift off and wait a bit more, yay.

It's now parked out back with the Jetta and Star Mazda as cars I'll never drive again :p

I've got the Kia. Done a couple of the Global thingy races where I've got the tracks. It's quite grippy for an FWD, but power-understeers like a bus if you try and hoon it like the Jetta.

I haven't seen that mod, but you can buy wheel adapters for the G25/27 to allow aftermarket wheels to be fitted to it.
