*** The Official Google Nexus 7 Thread ***

I have both Nexus 7 and Nexus 4, running two different ROM'S and have to say I have never noticed any slow down or anything.

I play games, media and do a lot of web browsing on both and have absolutely no problems!

Shame your having such problems mate :(

If those specs are true that looks very interesting although I think I will upgrade to the new Nexus 10 if there is one before getting the new 7!

I know Dude, it started off such a great experience and I can't pinpoint how or when but it went sour within the the last few months. So much so that I even contemplated buying an ipad mini (and I loath Apple)

I've only just stumbled into the thread so I've not read everything about where you're experiencing the slowdown but have you tried https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grilledmonkey.lagfix&hl=en to see if the slowdown relates to a TRIM issue?

Thanks Mate but the app needs root permission and I'm not rooted unfortunately. I was but then reverted back to stock. Most of the lag is generally using different apps and switching between them and going back to the home screen. Chrome is virtually unusable and I'm using Boat browser as it manages to run ok. I've used most (if not all) the apps which are supposed to reduce the lag without root and they work for a week or so but then the Nexus 7 reverts back to type A - major lagfest.

Have to say that my N7 is awful, has loads of free space (>50% if not more) and sometimes it lags worse than online gaming with 56k, I try to keep it clean of junk and end up resetting it every few months just to sort it out.

I know what you're going through Mate, I'm experiencing the same issues :(

I had similar issues with my Nexus 7 until I started using lagfix. Works a charm. The difference in speed is instantly noticeable. Was totally worth rooting for.

So glad we took our Nexus back. The iPad Mini really is streets ahead in performance.
Went with the Nexus originally believing all the hype about Google being the up and coming champions. Not been so disappointed in a piece of tech ever and were glad when it packed in working after two months, straight back to Tesco's. :)
£100 more for the Mini? Worth every penny.
My main gripe was it never was smooth in performance, which I was expecting with its quad core cpu. All the browsers were laggy/jerky pos, with Dolphin Broswer and the hotrocket or what ever it was called add on.
On the Mini every browser is streets ahead, super slick, smooth flawless action.
Thought I would stick my tuppence in here seeing as this thread helped push me towards it in the first place.
I am a fanboy of the best tech experience for the best money and the Nexus falls way below my excepted standards.

I'm defo lining up a purchase of the refresh n7.

I got my other half an n7 for Christmas and it has pretty much sat by my side of the bed all year. The ability to browse my nas and stream content in bed is awesome. The Apple Mini would be a rival for me if it could do that but unfortunately without that ability it is a no go.

+1 Installed last night after this post and it defo makes a difference.

Very happy N7 user here, UI and general performance is still very smooth (looks like I won the eMMC lottery :))
It's not particularly fast compared to the latest flagship phones and Chrome has turned into a mess (currently using firefox) but it runs apps and games just fine.

Not fussed about upgrading, it does everything I want it to.

Both Nexus 7 and iPad mini and use 2011 hardware :o

:(
I used Forever Gone a while back and it solved the lag issues I was having. No Root either.

^ Both Nexus 7 and iPad Mini were released with relatively old hardware, no-one should've expected high performance (from either device)

Performance is certainly on par for a 1.2GHz cortex A9 device (bar eMMC issues) Android lacks a great browser though, wish Google/Opera would hurry up and release blink or Mozilla sorts out firefox.

So... The Nexus 7... Ideal for social media stuff?

I am thinking of using one for Forums/Facebook/Twitter/Flickr/YouTube.

Good for those, and multi-tasking between them all? :)

Yup exactly what I use mine for. However you're probably better off waiting for the v2 N7 which should be revealed soon I imagine.

If If was buying a tab for the above I would buy something cheaper. I love my nexus7 and had no problems with it apart for the charger port has gone loose from playing with it while charging other than that it's a quality tab.

Buying a nexus7 for your reasons is like buying a 8800 gtx and only playing doom.

Isn't there an Overclockers Ultima tablet you should be able to get cheap? ;)
