Judging by that picture, I'm probably 35% :(

It always amazes me when I hear people like Jonny69 and [DOD]Asprilla talk about how much they eat. I usually eat between 2000 and 2500 calories a day, with the occasional day at as much as 3500. I struggle to keep my weight below 80kg, despite running, cycling and going to the gym. My weight has started to creep up since I stopped running a couple of weeks ago, so I'm going to have to get back on it in order to halt that trend.

Edit: forgot to mention, I'm 175cm tall.

I'm 147lb as of this morning. 134lb this time last year :( I was definitely under weight then though and have gained some muscle. I think around 140lb is my optimal 'fighting weight'. I'm 5'10.

I'm hovering at around 80kgs at the moment (5ft10in), but I've dropped a little below that lately.

I eat a lot though! Not crap at all, just a lot in general. I'm not bothered too much about losing weight, but I have definitely noticed my legs getting bigger, so there's some added weight there ;)

wut? 175 and 35%? what do you weight? :o

About 78kg at the moment. I did manage to get down to 75kg at one point, but I still looked really flabby. It's pretty frustrating, to be honest. Trying to burn fat doesn't seem to work, which is why I've been going to the gym; hoping that I can at least build some muscle, even if I can't get rid of the fat.

so you're pretty much exactly what i am right now

176@78kg and i look like 12-14% and you 35% ? either you have no muscle mass at all(which can't be possible)

you don't actually look like the guy at 35%

and then i eat 3500+/day

and i still manage to lose weight!

could be your metabolism but i still can't believe that you look like the guy at 35% with the same weight/height as me

Are you being a bit hard on yourself? Surely you can't be in the 35% range?
I am exactly the same weight as you and 9cm taller and i would estimate im somewhere between 15%-20% judging by that picture.

maybe he is retaining a lot of water?
That shouldnt make a difference though, if we are only looking at height + weight stats then any water he is holding would be included in his weight.

I know everybody is different with different ratios of muscle:fat but i cant see how he can look like the 35% diagram when he is exactly the same height/weight as Grudas who is less than 15%?

Thats my thoughts as well.
It does seem to be more difficult to differentiate between the pictures as you go above 20%. They all have a similar look, just at different sizes which is difficult to tell from the pictures. The lower percentages are easier to work out be seeing which parts of abs/pecs are visible and matching up with the diagram.

I could take a photo and show you, but it's not a pleasant sight :P

My body composition is odd. Despite being "only" 78kg I have a 35" waist and a 40" chest. My arms are quite skinny; I don't have much muscle mass at all, other than my thighs. The other issue is loose skin, which is a consequence of having come down from 147kg to 77kg in the space of a year. It's why I decided to start doing resistance training at the gym, to try to "fill it out" with muscle as it were.

I think we probably just have different interpretations of the diagram.
My guesses at the waist sizes of the different stages in the diagram (for an average height person, 5'10ish) would be:

15%: 29-31
20%: 32-34
25%: 34-37
30%: 37-40
35%: 40+

(lower than 15% is more dependent on size of your hip bones and muscle, so isnt easy to guess)

Thinking about it I wonder how musclely the legs on those 35% people would be if they dropped to 8% lol it must be like walking around carrying an extra 40kg if not more

That's what I'm experiencing the more weight I lose. I was about 16.5-17st at my heaviest but still cycling everywhere so had decent legs. I'm now about 13.5st and with all the extra cycling plus strength training too I've probably got just as strong legs as I did when I was carrying all that extra padding around.

My problem now on tough rides isn't power, it's getting enough oxygen in to keep my legs fuelled.

I'd put you closer to the 25%. When you told me how much you used to weigh, I'd never have believed it because that's a frankly amazing loss and you don't look like you used to carry that much. I think a bit of loose skin is to be expected but I don't think there's much fat under there.

I'm an odd one though, so you can't compare yourself to my build. I struggle to keep the weight on, especially muscle mass, plus there's something weird that commuting does to your calorie demands that long one-off rides don't do.

Plus the ridiculous calorie consumption I had in January should probably be put into perspective: that was a 20 mile long run at the weekend at 3:45 marathon pace, two 50 minute 10k lunchtime runs and 100 miles of commuting by bike during freezing cold January. Christ, how did I even do that, let alone keep it up?

Maybe I am interpreting the diagram differently than everybody else, or maybe it's all in my head. I have "moobs" and a sizeable overhanging of the midriff. Besides, I feel massive :P

You know, I never really thought about that. You'd think that losing 70kg would make you feel as though you were walking on air, but the difference is nowhere near that drastic.
