lol tvlicensing

do you need one if you use a sat box and get some eastern European tv package for sports or whatever?

I read on their site a while back it includes foreign networks, so even if you received only a foreign broadcast and had no UK coverage, so long as you're actually in the UK you would legally need to pay for a license, despite the fact it's got nothing to do with them

Stupid question....

So if you had a TV receiver box that somehow delayed the transmission without the use of recording buy say 10 minutes so you are always watching things 10 minutes after they have been transmitted you wouldn’t need a TV Licence?

You need to be covered by a valid TV Licence if you watch or record TV as it's being broadcast. This includes the use of devices such as a computer, laptop, mobile phone or DVD/video recorder.

Yes as your box or what ever is receiving a live transmission.

By the time i have written this post in this thread, I will probably have earned the 40p that one days viewing would have cost me.

I watch a couple of documentaries or series per week, well worth the ~£3.00 in case something comes along that I really want to view live.

my 40p worth.

or
£0.40 * 365.242 = £146.0968
£146 I could have better spend elsewhere.

and those documentaries you watch can likely be watched ondemand somewhere even if it means using a vpn to fake being in America.

alternatively youtube has a massive collection of films, series , documentaries etc

some uploaded by channels such as 4od others uploaded by users and never taken down by youtube.

Why not ring the local police station and just reassure them you've not committed a crime recently? Make sure they know that you're doing what they ask.

To be honest, if the police kept on sending me letters saying that I had possibly been involved in a crime, that's exactly what I would do.

I've got so many of these I could start a TV License trading card game.

Just ignore it,

I bin any letters that come through my door that don't have my name on them.

Why not just phone them up and tell them you don't watch TV? I did that when I moved into my new house about 3 years ago and I haven't heard from them since!

This. Not sure why people get their knickers in a twist over it, unless they enjoy opening letters? :p

Edit: Also you need a licence for the Sky Go you watch.

I had threats on my doorstep when I moved into my brand new house - wonder who told them it even existed.

I've previously been polite to TVL and informed them I don't require a license. They replied with "ppl always say that to get us off their backs so we don't believe it and we're coming to your house".

So I don't read their letters or talk to them anymore, what's the point.

Exactly OP, why are you even opening the letters? If it's from tv licencing and you don't have/need one then throw it in the bin...

It is a particularly nasty letter though!

I keep all my letters as evidence of their continual harassment should they ever wish to take me to Court. :D

This little pile has about tripled in size from when this pic was taken:

Must be well over £145.50 worth of letters they've sent now. ;)

They're not accusing you of anything. They're simply saying "we know you don't have a TV licence and would like to confirm why this is".

Given that you have failed to reply or get in touch with them, obviously they now think that you are not replying as you don't have a licence, and therefore have a right to take you to court to understand the situation. If the court finds that you ought to have done something to remedy the situation (ie getting back in touch) they will probably order you to pay costs.

You actually can't incriminate yourself without, well, incriminating yourself.

They have this form that you have to fill in and sign before they can actually take any legal action against you.

Anyone who has had legal action taken against them is purely down to the form they willingly filled in after it was given to them by the door step collectors basically.

I do not believe the amount of people that post on OCUK forums that claim to not have a live TV feed into their house. I simply do not believe it. I don't think I have ever in my life been to someones house and they not had the ability to turn on a television to a live feed. I'm trying to think of one and I can't.

You can have a live TV feed to your house, you can even have all the channels tuned in, you only need a TV license if you actually watch the broadcasts as they're being broadcast.
