Great, another TV Licence thread.
Sticky it as per kwerk's recent thread.

Great, another TV Licence thread.
do you need one if you use a sat box and get some eastern European tv package for sports or whatever?
Stupid question....
So if you had a TV receiver box that somehow delayed the transmission without the use of recording buy say 10 minutes so you are always watching things 10 minutes after they have been transmitted you wouldn’t need a TV Licence?
By the time i have written this post in this thread, I will probably have earned the 40p that one days viewing would have cost me.
I watch a couple of documentaries or series per week, well worth the ~£3.00 in case something comes along that I really want to view live.
my 40p worth.
Why not ring the local police station and just reassure them you've not committed a crime recently? Make sure they know that you're doing what they ask.
Why not just phone them up and tell them you don't watch TV? I did that when I moved into my new house about 3 years ago and I haven't heard from them since!
This. Not sure why people get their knickers in a twist over it, unless they enjoy opening letters?![]()
I am on my last warning now. The last letter was very threatening, it said that I will be going to court soon.
I had threats on my doorstep when I moved into my brand new house - wonder who told them it even existed.
I've previously been polite to TVL and informed them I don't require a license. They replied with "ppl always say that to get us off their backs so we don't believe it and we're coming to your house".
So I don't read their letters or talk to them anymore, what's the point.
They're not accusing you of anything. They're simply saying "we know you don't have a TV licence and would like to confirm why this is".
Given that you have failed to reply or get in touch with them, obviously they now think that you are not replying as you don't have a licence, and therefore have a right to take you to court to understand the situation. If the court finds that you ought to have done something to remedy the situation (ie getting back in touch) they will probably order you to pay costs.
I do not believe the amount of people that post on OCUK forums that claim to not have a live TV feed into their house. I simply do not believe it. I don't think I have ever in my life been to someones house and they not had the ability to turn on a television to a live feed. I'm trying to think of one and I can't.
