I can't believe there's so much nonsense about following on or not, we're utterly destroying Australia and there's nothing wrong at all with making the Aussie bowlers (who incidentally are the only ones showing any talent) bowl themselves into the ground and protecting our own bowlers especially in the first couple of Tests. Likewise it was completely fair to allow Root a go at a double century against the Aussies given how uncompetitive they are.
While you can say that following-on shows confidence in the team, arguably you can say not doing so shows plenty of confidence that we have the batters and the firepower to beat the Aussies handily in even less time.
