Lotus argued that Grosjean suffered floor damage from hitting a kerb, resulting in a greater degree of deflection.

All up to the stewards now.

IMO - if you're that far off the track that your bib is hitting the kerb, *which here are pretty flat until you get way off track* then it's your own fault and to the back of the grid you go.

Agreed. I'd like nothing better than to see Lewis win his first race of the season, but I don't think it will be Hungary. I think Lewis and Nico will be tied to another race where tyre management is everything. Shame. :(
 
FIA report.

Based on the telemetry it was apparent that the car suffered an impact during Q2 resulting in a vertical acceleration ranging from -7.3g to +11.1g. Video evidence verified the car bottomed at Turn 11 consistent with the telemetry. It is considered reasonable that this impact caused a fracture in the Floor Stay of car 8. It was confirmed by physival examination that the Floor Stay on car 8 was identical to that on car 7 which was intact. "Lifing documents" (which show the history of each part) indicate the car 8 part had been fitted for in excess of 600kms including a full race.

It is the conclusion of the stewards that the failure of this part was due to the impact in Q" and subsequently caused the car to fail to meet the requirements of Article 3.17.5. Accordingly this is deemed to be a case of accidental damage, not a case of non-compliance.
 
I watched the interviews after qually on the BBC earlier and they went to live on air about Grosjean, trying to make a big deal then heard whilst on air it was all fine. Kinda made the whole exercise pointless really :p
 
THe car bottomed out in a turn that every other car had to take, and because the Lotus has a adjustable ride system that consistently sees it smash the car against the floor... gaining an advantage, they aren't punished when that same system sees the car breaking the rules.

So fun that its one rule for one team, another rule for another team. One pair of cars we see sparking into loads of corners this season... Lotus, which has clearly helped the speed of the car, but when its too aggressive and breaks the car, thats fine, its not their fault?

This season is pathetic, Merc get one of the harshest punishments ever for a test in which they weren't allowed to actually test parts on the car, Ferrari run two tests which seemingly were MUCH more dodgy, get nothing. Merc miss out on the most important test, the only midseason test, then they make it more important by changing the tyres and maintain one of the harshest punishments, all because Ferrari(laughable) and Red bull(considering their cheating over the years AND the fact they found tyre testing alone so pointless they pulled Webber out of testing to not waste the time, as did Lotus) make a huge deal about a test they know was all but useless and get those upstarts Merc punished.

Lotus get no problem here, and a 30k fine for almost killing someone at the last race for Red Bull.

The fact that Kimi's car was undamaged suggests it was a slightly freakish failure, as Kimi was hitting kerbs all over the place (he really didn't look comfortable today).

Plus, if Lotus have a car which can exploit the rules, good on them. That's what winning in F1 often takes. That's not changed in the past 50 or 60 years - it's not just happened since you stopped taking your pills.

Whatever lotus have for running so low is obviously legal, others could use the same system if they wished.
The no penalty is then obviously fair

I'd say the harshest punishment this season was the grid penalty given to Hamilton after a tyre blowout killed his car and the team had to repair it.

Given what we now know about the tyres (I.e. made of cheese) it's a joke.

That was a very harsh penalty but that effected one race without necessarily effecting the rest. Missing out on a test could potentially have cost them any chance of fixing their tyre issues, they may have had loads of parts they've been working on and a real test planned to see which direction was the way to go. ultimately the lack of 3 days of testing could effect every race for the rest of the season.

The general point is Lotus CLEAR as day to anyone with eyes run lower and hit the ground frequently in every race, and their car got a broken part under the car from smashing into the ground heavily around a corner(they seem to drop heavily towards the floor under breaking with their system as you mostly see it braking and through a corner after a longer straig). He has a broken part which needs fixing... which is almost certainly their own fault and get no penalty for fixing it. Hamilton gets a tyre failure the fault of Pirelli, clearly the fault of the tyre, not the only driver and the first sign of a MASSIVE problem with the tyre and he gets punished straight away with a grid penalty. Its just absurd, if Hamilton gets a ludicrously harsh penalty... why does Grosjean get an equally harsh penalty even if it isn't Lotus's fault to simply maintain parity with Hamilton's treatment earlier in the season.

I don't often agree with Lewis, but it seemed far from a great lap. He missed a couple of apexes and spun out of turn 2 when engaging DRS. He was right to say that we could have been quicker.

6th seems about right, but overtaking anywhere other than the pits is so hard. Button kept a much quicker Kimi behind him for a good number of laps last year, before the team bizarrely pitted him, by saving KERS for the exit for the last corner.
 
lol so mr whiney, spit dummy out of pram got out qualified by his team mate. Love to see more of Perez and hopefully McClaren will take him more seriously.

ill be pretty disappointed if lotus dont make up a serious amount of ground on ferrari and merc today. kind of expecting at least one podium from RG

Couple of people at the track have just tweeted that the track temperature has just hit 50°C

Just said on Sky they are expecting the track temperature to get up towards 60°C! :eek: Nasty nasty nasty.
