I was waiting the entire video thinking are you sure? Then I saw the overtake, damn that was good!

On a side note it looks like I'm going to be getting a bit keen with Strava or something like in the very near future managed to get both a Garmin Edge 500 and Motoactv smart watch unit for £25 and £20 respectively!

Yeah I use it with a clutch mech, but I went out on a ride with the chainring, before I put the mech on, and I had no drops. Though the chain still slapped around all over. One makes the chain stay put, one get's rid of stupid annoying noises. :p

Very very impressed with this - fitted the new narrow/wide chainring with no chainguide and works brilliantly.

How'd you manage that? I've been looking for a cheap Garmin Edge for a while now, but even second hand ones seem to go for stupid prices!

need some help with identifying an odd bolt that keeps coming loose - it is through the rear chainstay pivot of my boardman fs. halfrauds instore have been quite frankly useless. i've tried threadlock but it keeps working loose and then the rear of the bike feels odd - i had to wrap duct tape round the bolt to stop it from dropping out completely. i can't even work out the name of this type of screw/bolt/coupling to try and source a replacement

the larger female portion is inboard and takes an 8mm allen key and the smaller male screw portion goes outboard and takes a 4mm allen key
hopefully some pics below (sorry about the focus - new macro lens i haven't quite worked out yet)

One of the few perks of halfords! Clearance item list came through and the Edge 500 with cadence and hrm sensor is reduced to £50 (mine was missing everything but the unit hence the price I paid), and the Motoactv watch is reduced to £20. The standalone edge 500 unit is reduced to £35, don't think there are many left in the country now though at those prices, worth a word with a local store if they will have a look and see who has any for you.

encephalopathy what condition is the bearing that the bolt goes through in? Does it rotate smoothly without notches? I've rebuilt a few of those and never come across that issue, a few others but never that.

There should be! Drop the rear wheel out, undo that bolt and the one on the other side, slide the chainstays down and check the bearings both sides.

Complain directly to boardman and link your post on here , do the same with halfords customer services online and tell them if they won;t sort it you will go to all the big bike forums and post the pictures and your experiences, you might even want to find the post boardman did on whatever bike forum and post a reply to him and hope he gets an email notification. EDIT! heres the link it was way back in 2009 even... halfords clearly didn;t get the message http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=12629742

nothing has changed my boardman was useless to brakes crap , gears crap..

halfords noob told me the brakes should rub until you wear them in from riding hard ..

quickly learnt to setup then my self and did a far better job....

tbh you should contact trading standards as well a bike like that is not safe! HOW THE HELL CAN HALFORDS EXPECT YOU TO RIDE THAT? they should swap the bike at the very least if there monkeys can't fix it properly

Arknor that is a major reaction to something, granted store experience might not have been great, best bet is to of course check the bearings and see what is actually causing the issue. Encephalopathy will get the best response by contacting customer services directly and raising the issue there.

i would like to buy a new bike, maximum budget of £1500. quite like the look of the scott scale 650. i would like to get properly off-road, but don't really think i need to go full suspension as i'll be doing mainly cross country - would rather get a higher quality hardtail? going to see if i can get a proportion of it through the cycle to work scheme, as i'll also use it to do my new 3 mile commute. what else should i be considering around this price point?

but he shouldn't have to which is the point it shoudl be properly setup and road safe and it clearly is not if that bolt keeps coming loose and making the rear end of the bike feel funny.
how can halfords not do everything in their power to help him and just fob him off?

The bike has scuffs along the seat stays and marks on the mech, it has been ridden. Bikes that have been ridden need maintenance, it doesn't look like a new bike that is just miraculously falling apart. I am in full agreement that it should be looked at and a solution found, please do not mistake that. I just thought the response with regard to complaining every where, new frame now was a bit far.

If he contacts customer services, they should leap at it and get him sorted.
