13/63 plate

Yeah, for me, in his shoes. If it were my money with those criteria. Not one moment I suggest he should buy it for him. I said for me.

Clearly it's not my money and this is all hyperthetical anyway.

You do realise an M135i and an Audi A3 2.0 TDI do not cost the same amount of money, right?

The 'in his shoes' part means his circumstances - ie, his budget and requirements. I somehwat doubt his requirements were for 300bhp given the car he bought and seems happy with has HALF that. I'm all for suggesting better value alternatives but suggesting 300bhp cars to people who are buying 2 litre diesels is just pointless and silly.

If it was my money, in his shoes, I would have bought a Lambourghini Reventon.

Wouldn't have been the car for me, but I like the new A3 so hope you enjoy it. Had one as a hire car last week. Perfectly pleasant place to do a few hundred miles in and far, far better looking than the new 1 series.

I've just ordered my new car and have delayed the registration until the 1st September. I didn't want to order from factory as less leverage for haggling so found one in stock to the spec I wanted that has just come in on the last shipment.

Managed to get £2500 off plus free GAP insurance so wasn't too bad. Plus, my car has 3 seperate problems with an expected bill of >£1500 and MOT is due next week. So i went in with the view to buy now to fix the price for my car but then delayed the pick up 3 weeks to get new plates.

It all depends on what deals are going on all the options so you have to take each scenario as it comes. This ended up being the best way for me on this occasion but other times I bought used as it was best deal, or went ex demo model etc.

One thing I do note, is that living in the NE there is about 100x less options! lol

13 is unlucky, think about that. They changed the whole Irish plate system because they were afraid sales would drop with the number 13 on it.

Well that explains all the 131 plate rental cars in Galway and Kerry last week.

You do realise I wrote more than what you quoted right?

I notice you always only quote the par to the post that suit your need to make a remark at someone.

We've done the 'Quoting 101' guide before.

I notice you always only quote the par to the post that suit your need to make a remark at someone.

Yes, thats generally how it works - you quote the part of the post you wish to reply to.

I ignored the completely meaningless part of your post where you stated the bleeding obvious by reminding us that it wasn't your money and it was just a random internet comment.

Audi are offering some stonking deals on brand new cars at the moment.

Picked up my dream job last week so went in for a browse yesterday, walked out with a car on order!

Congrats on the job, what do you do? Also how much was the Audi if you don't mind me asking?

I recently got a new job too which pays a fair bit more than my previous hence treating myself to a new Sportage. Could have gone out and got something crazy for the best part of £20k but similar position to you and went for a more sensible option.

I did have my eye on a 59 plate Audi A5 S Line which was very nice but managed to resist lol.

Ok, I am going bite.

Do you know his exact budget to the pound? No.

Do you know what kind of budget I had in my hyperthetical? No.

It was - Nippy, safe, guess he wanted a hatchback, new (and for new, you can't get the M135i secondhand easily nor much cheaper than new anyway), similar sort of size to the A3. That's what I would have got. (note the I, and would. Not he, and could.)

Plus, in your own words, in general, not just in this thread, have you thought about practice what you preach from time to time.

I might have missed it, but what is wrong with the current car exactly? to say "forget that car, we'll spend £20k on another brand new car instead" seems a little extreme?
