*** The Official Samsung Galaxy S4 Thread ***

My GS4 is dying! It keeps turning off, battery or motherboard issue it seems. Requested a repair today. Flashed back to stock rom and problem still persists. Very strange never had any issue with it until yesterday, it just turns off, then doesn't turn back on until the charger is plugged in. Charged to 100% drained it to 0 charged back to 100% but still no joy keeps turning off and refusing to start up. Not sure what the issue is, was stock rooted MGA.

Mine did exactly the same, worked fine when it was plugged in, got it from Amazon, I got a new one from them. If fact by the time i sent it back it wasn't ever registering more than 0%.... :/

No idea what caused it.

Details back in this thread somewhere.

I used Triangle Away to reset my flash counter before doing an emergency firmware reset on Kies and they still knew it had custom firmware on it.

Finally bored of my iPhone 5 now (mainly because a one inch larger screen would be nicer), so Black Mist GS4 is on the way.

Good choice of colour. I think white now is tooooo common for phones.

Its funny because you hear iPhone owners say that the iP5 screen is the perfect size...until they use a phone with a larger screen.

Is this phone THAT good? :D

Are all UK S4's 4G ready?

I'm still kind of undecided whether to get this. Please convince me to hit the order button :D

Just got an S4, and having had iPhones for a while I'm pretty impressed.

Great big screen and I quite like the Samsung launcher (probably in a minority if one on that).

It's my work phone so the email and calendar apps are pretty important to me - so far it's pretty good.

Only let down so far is how few of the apps I have can be transferred to the SD card (not a function of the phone though). Oh, and I can't work out how to get a percentage on the battery icon yet.

Not sure if the S4 works on 4G on all networks - I'd be surprised if it didn't as it runs on EE at 1800MHz which is a lesser used frequency than the other networks have (800MHz band).

Go to settings, display and scroll to the bottom and there is an option to tick show battery percentage.

The amount of apps that can transfer to the sd card has increased a lot since I got the s4 a few months ago.

There have been loads of app updates as well. I think android is a big development area at the moment.

I noticed that the biggest device storage hogs are Google play music and the gallery.

I regularly go in and clear up to 2gb by clearing the cache from those apps. I'm looking forward to being able to transfer Google play music to the SD card.

Really bored now of my s4 and want to go back to an ip5
Can't believe what the shop prices are for the s4 but I can't shift this s4 for more than £320, only bought it in june sim free for £559. Really de-value quickly compared to Apple products...

Transferring apps isnt all that useful as it doesnt transfer app data. So even after moving the apps, some of the bigger games (for exxample) can still leave > 1gb each on the internal storage.

It's not a problem if you are rooted as you can get round that, same for google music.

Shame you blew your warranty with a custom ROM :(

Let's see what happens is going to o2 rather than Samsung.

Ahhh that's good that others had something similar. It's just strange everything was working fine then recently battery dropped like crazy and now keeps restating.

Yeah i have no idea what happened to mine, it just started getting really warm around the SD card slot and then just got worse, Post 6920 and onwards were my issues if your interested. :)

I thought that you'd wait to see the iPhone 6 or have you played with the beta and found that boring as well?

I have used the beta and I like it, but its not really the software that bothers me, just the size. No doubt if the iPhone 6 is fancy and has a bigger screen or whatever I might get one as well, unless I'm more than content with the S4.

Thanks!

All the UK S4s are setup for the three UK 4G bands.

Fantastic, thanks.

Did Samsung ever release that update to remove some of the bloat that was taking gigs of space?

Can anyone recommend the most newbie guide to root? :D I only want to root to install apps that need root..don't think I'll bother with with custom ROMs initially anyway. Probably will just run Nova launcher if I don't like Touchwhiz.

Will be my first Samsung phone in many many years :D

To be fair, you paid more than you needed to though. I got mine new for £429 from O2 a fair few months back. I'm not saying I disagree, just that the drop from new isn't as big as it looks perhaps.

Cool.

What made you choose this over the One?

Precisely, paid way over the odds.
