**Official Gigabyte Z87X-OC Discussion Thread**

OK, slightly baffled now, after connecting ssd and dvd drive up, I have a message that says reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key. If I put my Windows 7 disk will it setup and install and then can I set the ssd to boot in Windows

Hi,

you need to go in to bios and set it to boot from your dvd drive - put the dvd in the drive, save the change to the bios and then re boot. You should then get a message flash up on screen to press any key to boot from dvd disc. Then do the install of windows following the prompts as necessary. Once installed you can go back in to the bios and select the SSD as boot device.

Hope that helps

Hammer the delete key on the keyboard...or use the direct to BIOS button on the board which takes you into the BIOS on the next boot.

If the keyboard or mouse don't work still then try different USB ports.

Thanks OK will try that tomorrow, I'm knackered trying to get going, I'll be okay once I can get to the bios. Thanks for the speedy response

Edit, that worked fine, I forgot about that function, right this time tomorrow I will Definitely have W7 installed and fully updated

My apologies should have mentioned about the delete key - assumed you knew how to get in too the bios. I could have saved you a lot of time. Hope it goes well tomorrow for you.

I must have just had one of the shortest 'upgrades' I've ever had. Got a 3770k on saturday to replace my 2500k but I was underwhelmed with the chips OC potential and the rubbish overclocking features of my current Gigabyte z68 boards coupled with Ivybridge. Anyway returning the 3770k and stuck a new order in for a 4770k coupled with this board based purely on this thread. I take it I've made a good choice in terms of price and ocing performance?

windows installed, currently trying to get windows update to work, everything else is fine, will run tests later
what list of drivers do ineed after the lan driver? all the intel ones and then the updated gigabyte one,im currently using the f3 bios

Absolutely nothing touches this board in its price range, its up there with the £250+ boards :)

So yep, great choice.

At 3 months ono, i only thought my time with a 3770k was short.:D

Tbh, as much as i like the formula. I should have maybe gone with this board instead. It has better slot spacing, oc's well and the money saved could have gone towards a new case.

Good stuff! Now here's to hoping I win the silicon lottery this time. Lucked out with my 780 but got a dud in the 3770k.

Yh would have gone from a 2500k > 3770k > 4770k in the space of a week! :p

Bought this board yesterday along with a 4770k - All good so far - Should have read the book though as it turns out my 780's need to go in PCIE 1 and 3 for SLi to actually function.

Which would be great if I wasn't on a custom loop that spaces the cards into slots 1 & 2.

That I filled before reading the manual :p

Good news is that I have a longer SLi bridge on it's way due tomorrow. Drain and re fill and away we go. Moral of the story is - read the instructions ha ha ha ;)

The only thing I found odd is that the chip was boosting to 4.3Ghz at quite high volts without me touching anything in the bios. Need to have a play later to bring it down somewhere sensible. Maybe the board has been tested before I don't know.

Edit - had a quick play tonight and I mean quick. Stable at 4.5 with 1.3v - will ideally get this lower.

Odd issue which I'm not sure is something introduced with haswell but changing cpu multiplier only seems to have an effect if turbo boost is enabled? If it's disabled regardless of what my multiplier is set to (all power saving features are disabled) it is stuck at 3.5ghz. However if I leave it on the frequency reflects what I've set the multi to...

What BIOS you rocking on the board? I seem to remember that one of the X series BIOS'es had this issue (may have been X04 I think)

F7a beta.

Try a different BIOS..I think F8a is out and can be found at tweak town.. Or shove X02 on it..which was the last one I tried.

I even think X05 is out maybe too?

If that doesn't help then its probably something simple that's been overlooked in the BIOS.

Can you increase the ratio via the OC touch?

I'm of to bed now..will check back tomorrow.

I'm using F03 & X02, no problem for me with either.

Are you clicking 'on' then apply for each setting you change?
