Friday night when kids gone to bed it is my time to relax after busy week and catch up on some TV / films with misses that is only time i drink never get wasted just 4-6 cans.

I think that if i did not have kids and work etc.. i would probably drink a lot more

I used to drink far to much. It made me do stupid things, lose friends and didn't bring me happiness.

However I will temper this by saying that a lot of it was me not the drink. I was immature and my personality was still developing to large extent.

Nowadays (nearly 24) I am a lot more sensible with it and only have the occasional beer or whiskey once a week or two. Barely had a drunk for a month or two now (barring a few hot whiskeys thanks to this dreadful cold I've got).

I will say this though: giving up is highly overrated. I don't feel in the slightest bit better, in fact I'd say I feel physiologically worse. :/

Still, it saves me money and I guess allows me to mature up a bit.

That was what I was trying to say above.

Everyone I know that doesn't drink (the ones that never drank - or drank and then gave up) are nearly all physiologically worse off than me at 41 years old..... usually because they have some other "vice" that isn't as stigmatised as "drink" but is actually far worse for the body when done over a number of years.

I have gone without drink for weeks on end many times over the last 20 years - whenever I do the only benefit I get is better sleep - absolutely nothing else. If I'm off drink for a few weeks - I actually feel more stressed during the day, I don't feel in any way more alert, more healthy or more fitter - in fact I feel worse when I go off it completely....

Good shout mate. Keep it up.

E: silkworth.net has me at 2536 days! Christ time flies! I remember the first 6 months very well though.

That's excellent, good for you! I remember your previous posts on this matter.

Ta :)

I am immeasurably happier since I stopped. Some people shouldn't drink and I'm one of them. I'm a bad drunk and I was too drunk too often.

I have one drink every night. Either a glass of wine, can of lager with my dinner (I finish work at 9pm so dinner is around 10:30-11:00 for me) or a tot of whisky while I watch a movie in bed (or now play pokemon).

I have general anxiety disorder, brought on by psychosis, both actually diagnosed. A small amount of alcohol a day seems to help massively. I went from barely coping with 2 days a week work at weekends a couple of months ago; to going full time and I am taking on more and more responsibility without hiding under my desk crying like a little girl.

Depends, doesn't it.

If I'd kept drinking the way I was it would quite likely have killed me eventually.

For plenty of people there's not really any reason at all to give up.

Not drunk for something around 14 years now.
Don't have a problem with it. Still go to pubs and bars, I just drink soft drinks. Tends to be a bit more expensive sadly.

I only drink on Friday or Saturday evenings and when I'm out with people, and most of the time it isn't a great deal (I can nurse a drink for quite a while so tend to only get through two or three on a night out).

I chose "no", but it's not a hard and fast rule. How rarely is rarely? I had a few glasses of ginger wine last winter. Come to think of it, I might get a bottle this week. I like being in the warm with a glass of ginger wine when it's cold outside.

I drank a lot of alcohol when I was young, because I had no sense. Spend a lot of money to poison yourself - where's the fun in that, really?

I go out every couple of weeks or so and have a few, but usually stick to beer and tbh I can't drink it fast enough to be 'drunk'. 3 or 4 pints is usually all I have.

I have just come home from a night out infact and had 2 bottles and 1 can, can't even tell I had anything.
