*** AMD Radeon R9 290X Reviews Thread ***

LOL @ TTL Video, clearly an Nvidia fan. Comparing the looks of the ATi card to the Nvidia card. They both look equally as ****. But I don't care!!

What everyone seems to miss is that when it gets too hot, it throttles. The only way to mitigate against this is up the temp target and to wear earplugs and even then it will still throttle. I for one could not live with that, Like having a gorgeous wife and not being aloud to touch.

Me neither. It uses a mere 50w less than the 7990 at full load too, whilst getting some 25c hotter.

Sooo glad I got the 7990 now.

I wonder if the Arctic Extreme Accelero will fit these cards? I've got one on my 7970... I haven't bought a 290 yet..

TTL even compared the standard 290x to an aftermarket MSI 780 card, the guy is a complete noob. Lets swear in my reviews to look "Well ard"

I happily leave my 7990 running at 100% 24/7 Litecoin mining under water and it never goes above 60 degrees.

I would love to see some good results on a 290x doing them same. I am sure water cooling will help this card massively.

Yet if you swear on his forum he deletes your posts.

I stopped visiting OC3D ages ago now. After Jim stepped down it just became TTL's megalomania cave.

Narcissism at its finest.

No doubt the 290 gets hot but it's cheap and it's really ruddy fast.

Agreed, I think with watercooling and volts this card can dish some serious performance! but so can the Kepler cards...

So the message seems to be, 780GTX and Titan still speed king at normal resolutions. Get the 290X if you gaming at mega resolutions.

290x looks fantastic for 1440P and above.

1080p, it's neck and neck, so it's a case of which features suit you best.

And of course which games you play.

guess this is why the 780gtx went up in price few days ago :p so nvidia drop 780 gtx to same price as this soon and then match beat it and then the 780 ti comes in and takes over aswell where the 780 gtx was priced.

Having just watched Linus review, overclocked vs overclocked the 780 wins, more so at 1080p and less as the res gets higher, stock vs stock the 290X wins.
No offense, but 290x cannot even be properly overclocked at this point due to the stock cooler limitation, so it still too early to do a proper overclock vs overclock comparison.
