Underwhelemd by the 'next' generation of consoles and games?

Does it? News to me, usually when the TV comes on its showing the Xbox logo and then it's on the dash within 10 seconds.

I didn't say that at all, you just chose to interpret my post that way.

I gave him two facts

1. PS4 has more confirmed 1080p games that XB1
2. PS4 is more likely to be hitting 1080p in multiplat games (we can see this from launch titles)

I didn't even mention XB1 in the post.

Your first point is undoubtedly true, the ps4 does have more confirmed 1080p games, but saying its more likely to achieve 1080p in multiplats is just false. Maybe it will in the first year say but after that (maybe even before) more and more xbox one games will hit native 1080p. This is based off the fact that I remember reading an ID dev saying that COD:Ghosts being at 720p on the X1 was more to do with optimisation than the hardware restraints

Yeah I don't mean showing the logo I mean from powering on to actually being able to interact with the dash which is when I'd consider it to have finished booting

From an academic point of view, the PS4 will always maintain a lead against the Xbox one due to its more powerful hardware and less restrictive APIs.

Sure, Xbox One games will increase in quality, but PS4 ones will as well.

I'd actually be a lot more optimistic about PS4 if not for its CPU, it certainly has the GPU to run 1080P but the Jaguar CPU is embarrassingly pants, they would have better off with a fast Intel dual/tri but obviously cost was the primary factor there.

That's all contextual, you are judging the Jaguar CPUs by their Windows performance, which isn't relevant to them being used in a different setting with much less overheads and more direct access as well as games being made specifically FOR that CPU.

With the PS4's more powerful hardware yeah of course it will always be able to push a bit more than the X1 but in terms of multiplats, much like this gen, I expect no discernible differences between the 2 versions this time next year. The place where the PS4 will be able to show its power will, like this gen, be in its exclusives

But the difference between the two consoles now is a lot bigger than it was then.

Also, it makes no sense to assume the Xbox One versions will improve, whereas the PS4 ones won't.

Sounds like you need to just buy a PS4.

If they can keep it at 1080 then yeah! I'd like to get one next year and upgrade my aging 2008 Sony Bravia. I saw a dummy PS4 in Game last week and its a very tiny console, smaller than my PS3 Slim, amazing really. How the gargantuan XBONE is going to compete is going to be interesting as not everyone wants a massive ugly piece of plastic next to their TVs.

But Battlefield 4 isn't going to be native, I wish they just set the standard and forced all developers to meet the requirement. They are just too scared to alienate lazy money grabbing game developers and publishers. I'm sounding old now I guess but I remember when the games industry was focused on the gamer and game quality above all else, now its just an annual churn of the same old ****e, DLC and incomplete patched later games. In the case of PC games its even worse as you don't own the games you buy now as they are all locked into a digital distribution platform such as steam.

Having customer experience and focus of there forefront of their business models would be a good thing, I'd bet people would embrace it especially with the correct marketing strategy.

More quality, more customer focus, more ownership!

OK rant over :)

You're in for a shock, there will be a larger difference between the two consoles throughout the whole gen than there ever was between the PS3 and 360.

It's just not possible for games to be running and looking exactly the same on both consoles with the power difference that exists.

This would only be possible if a developer purposely lowered the PS4 version down in terms of effects, resolution and framerate to make them equal, and we have never seen this happen before.

I never said the PS4's versions won't improve I'm simply saying that the X1 versions will catch up the PS4's whilst obviously the overall quality will improve as the generation progresses as is always the case

I honestly don't think I will be. The power difference on paper really doesn't equate to this huge chasm of difference in performance that people like to think it does. I suppose we won't know for sure until 6 months to a year down the road but until then we'll just have to argue back and forth :p

I am calling you ignorant because the stuff you are posting is ignorant of the truth. You still haven't responded to a question I've asked you about 5 times now.

If the previous generations of consoles were much further on than PCs at the time, then why did the PS3 come out at around the same time as the 8800GTX?

I don't consider your views to be valid opinions because they are not informed, it's just conjecture based on a strong lack of understand what you are talking about.

So he just can't stop lol.

Your calling me ignorant because for some reason my opinion isn't worthy, but yours is...

I don't know how the mods can think this is ok but whatever. I'll reply.

spoffle,

We have a PC, PS3, Wii U, PS Vita, 3DS, 360 etc.. For some reason your opinion above all others is the right one. I'm just another gamer, with consoles and PC, but my opinion is invalidated because yours is superior.

Whatever man, stop posting in this thread if you have a problem with me having a different opinion. At the end of the day that's your problem not mine.

Have a nice day.

Back on topic, The last of Us 2 is rumored for PS4, that's the type of next gen game I would like to see. Would def pick up a PS4 for that. The current stuff that has been shown is a bit meh.

I'm just bored of it tbh. I can't wait for the consoles to be out, so maybe we can finally start talking about the games and not about the bloody specs.

Well at the moment everyones like horny teenagers looking for porn on the internet (console specs) and comparing whos penis's are bigger (ps4's more powerful). But soon we'll meet our wives (consoles will arrive) and everyone will be happy. Sure they'll be some divorces (selling/ hardware failures), they'll be some affairs (getting both consoles) and we might even meet new people (swapping consoles) but in the end will always love the kids (games) the most.

Wow where did that go....

I didn't say my opinion is more valid above all, I'm pointing out that your views are ignorant, they are not informed opinions so aren't to be taken seriously. This means that you are drawing conclusions based on unreliable information, which you are refusing to consider is a factor. I've said why your views are incorrect, which you have ignored AGAIN.

For the seventh time; If the previous generations of consoles were much further on than PCs at the time, then why did the PS3 come out at around the same time as the 8800GTX?

You seem completely unable to answer a direct question.
