Microsoft Windows 8.2 Scheduled For January 2014

8.1 install took 15mins, took me less than 5mins to see the ****** effort they put into 8.1 before I just wiped the disk, they can keep the metro induced garbage. When I want to configure settings and options I don't want to go through an interface that was designed by the braindead and hard of seeing while there programmers must spend days just looking out windows because that's the level of effort that goes into programming that kind of crap for an update.

Let us mention the mouse lag issue because MS thought no one would notice that.

They really are idiots at MS and only fools keep paying them for this crap.

Winshiiite 8 cannot be fixed or improved its a design failure from the top, they will just keep trying to do these lame updates to sucker fools into it trying it again.

i don't get what people love about the old start menu so much that they're missing from metro? seruiously someone tell me what they need to do on a start menu? the start menu literally just opened programs in a list style format, which is exactly what you get now, except you can make it so your favourite programs have a better easier to get to spot, and you less popular programs are just one swipe away.

what are people going to do with a start menu? it's like the users on this site are from mumsnet, they are on a computer but don't get how to use one.

Pretty much this. For a forum full of supposedly PC literate people, the amount of whining going on about not being able to find your programs in a list, as opposed to a much faster tiled system beggars belief.

What were you configuring? Chances are you could have just gone into control panel or right clicked bottom left & you'd have found it just like it was on windows 7.

I'd fix your swear word too. I think you are just being awkward there is no need to go into metro apart from the start screen.
 
Yeh you have to go into kindergarten designed metro interface for a lot of things, its not like someone can remove metro and have a system that is not crippled by the fact MS decided to get silly and sloppy in designing square touch crud. Hell they even brought that metro inspired crap into the areo desktop gui.
 
Love windows 8 - don't want the traditional start menu back.

Windows key, type a few letters, press enter. It's really not difficult, and far faster to get around than previous iterations.

I can't see MS ever bringing it back, as the initial backlash against the changes has swung the other way now.

so you only used it for less than 5min? lol.

also the mouse lag issue was just a bug. which has been fixed, you do know 99% of software/games do have some sort of bugs when released

Tell me what you need to go into metro for with the settings, I can guarantee it can be done the old way also.

From what you are saying you are whining over nothing!

Well no, but then Apple just forked development - so you do get the best of both worlds depending on what hardware you use.

I still think Microsoft will end up having to take this path in the future, it just depends how much flapping around trying to make K&M users accept a touch screen interface they want to do first. Getting that moron Ballmer out is a good start though.
 
I think time will show splitting their OS into the Desktop, Laptop, Tablet as one platform and Phone as another was the wrong decision to make.
 
I bought win8.1 yesterday.

Installed it and the first thing I did was install start8 and 8gadgets. Then I suppressed the metro interface as much as I could. Reason I bought it was that I need to learn how it all works so I can fix problems for other people that also have it, I would have been happy to stay with win7, but so far I have not been disappointed and I am happy I made the switch.

Oh and "Win + X" is the best hotkey EVER (and with start8 can make the menu appear at your mouse instead of the bottom left which makes it even better!)

well you won't lean how it all works because you've installed start8 so basically there's nothing to lean.

if you want to how it all works then uninstall start8 and lean how to use the new start screen/menu.

I can still access the "start" screen, pal. You obviously do not know how start8 works.

They don't care about the individual hunched over his home PC, they are pushing the connected office alongside play, and I've got to be honest a lot of the stuff they've done make sense.
 
I just don't understand why start menu couldn't be an option for those who want it. I don't care if new users don't like or learned to live with it.. I wan't it as long as I can still have it.

So I am staying Win7.

Just because I have installed a start menu and desktop gadgets doesn't mean that I cannot learn how it works.:rolleyes:

I prefer the functionality of the start menu and the desktop gadgets and they were the main factor as to why I didn't want to make the change to win8.

But as I fix a lot of laptops and PCs for people in my neighbourhood I felt a tad unprofessional not knowing how to access certain features with ease, I could still accomplish the task; it would just take me a while to get where I needed to.

Now that I have it, I can learn how to use it (because I am actively using it for work, gaming, social etc) and I even know how to make it like win7, if my client prefers.

The start menu and gadgets are just flair, they do not stop me from messing about with the operating system and learning all its ins and outs.

Do you see now why I wanted to install it and then install the 2 mods as well or are you going to question my motives again? :)

I understand why you got 8.1 (I didn't say I don't understand why you got it) but the point i'm making is you bought 8.1 installed it then shuddery installed start8. so really you haven't gave 8.1 a chance without start8. if I buy a new OS I would give it about 3 to 4 weeks without installing any UI mods then if I really had find it not user friendly for me then I would mod it, like I did with win95 - all away up to win7.

I love it how people tell me the new GUI is better because they can ignore it and use the keyboard in a CLI-style. It's hardly a ringing endorsement that the GUI is best ignored and you just use the keyboard to type stuff in. Mouse? Icon? What's that all about then? Takes me back to the days of Xenix and AT&T back in the early 80's.

Personally I really don't get on with Win8, but I really like WP8. One is the right tool for the job, one is a mish-mash of conflicting functionality all smooshed into one road-kill like UI for the sake of marketing.

Sorry but I'm finding it hard to take you seriously now. Your diction is just terrible. Can you not take 20 seconds to look over what you are writing?

On topic. Yes I haven't given the metro ui a chance (to run on my PC) because I do not like it. I can still access it, use it and mess with it to learn how it works. Though according to you I won't learn "it all" because I have installed start8. That is nonsense and you know it is. I won't reply again as this is pointless. You may have the last words.
