*** The 2013 Gym Rats Thread ***

Right. Spontaneous buy but was in the local sports shop today and picked up some liquid chalk as I'm struggling with my grip for deadlifts at the moment. I just sampled some and I can't get the bloody stuff off I've washed my hands twice lol

Face palm or investment?

Lol it doesn't come off too easily but it's good stuff imo.

Lol I know, but when I'm warming up with 30kg for OHP for example it looks like I'm going to take off.

Unless you actually take off, I don't think you'll have a problem. ;)

When you warm up your muscles, you are also getting your nervous system ready for a pounding.

I get most of it off after one wash, leave it a while then have a second wash and that should see it off.

However, liquid chalk is amazing.

Yeah, I'm always as explosive as possible on the concentric, on the eccentric I simply control the weight down (although never do 3s - 5s negatives).

Should try the -3s delvis negative.

Never had a problem with the MP liquid chalk, usually just comes straight off...Maybe it's cheaper than other alternatives.

It makes such a difference with deadlifts, using it today and even with mixed grip didn't once feel that the bar would slip, even at 190kg.

Do you use it with anything else? I don't do shrugs anymore, maybe I should incorporate them into my training but I when I used to do them my grip was awful. I omitted them because I didn't see the point as I need to get much stronger on my deadlifts to warrant doing them.

I can go double overhand much further (c.180kg) with chalk before having to use mixed grip on deads. It's brilliant stuff. :) I wish my pores produced chalk - that would be my special power if I were more of a mutant than I already am.

Chalking your back for squats definitely helps the bar feel more connected across your back. It shouldn't really be necessary for lighter weights though.

Barks, it's not a grip limitation that it provides aid for, it stops the bar from rolling or moving in your hands. Grip isn't a problem when you're pushing, but trust me; try it and you'll like it. I don't always chalk for any of my sessions, mainly only if I deadlift. But since I started using chalk, I haven't used my straps.

Delvis, really can't see why the bar should slip from your hands in squats! Can understand chalking your back as ice says, but only under HEAVY loads. Haven't felt the need to do it yet and I'm on ~140 working sets.
