FAO: Scuzi re; Humidor

Hi Scuzi. Been looking for a humidor for a couple of days now and stumbled across your post of 5 years ago (I know!).
It's PERFECT. EXACTLY what I'm looking for.
You said what you paid for it but would you mind telling me from where?
Doubtful they'll still be selling the same model but you never know.

Also, is that the manufacturers name on the brass plate? If so, what does it read?

Your help in this matter would be much appreciated.

 Necro lol

Looking thru some of the older links that cuban crafters place seems to have some decent offers on at the moment.

http://www.cubancrafters.com/wholes...ico-rosa-rosewood-humidor-a-cutter-300-value/

looks decent but no mention of what the cigars are which are a shame, for the money seems like a decent offer for the money.

Quick Q regarding VAT tho, is it standard 20% or would there be complications and different "tobacco tax" also?

I can't get my hands on Cubans over here unfortunately, it was one of those beauties that pulled me in from a non-smoker.

I have to say, I used to keep a small humidor pretty stocked and moved from Rocky Patel to Montecristo (literally threw up on my first one from spinning, haha) to Romeo & Juliet to Afuente to Cohiba.

These days I just buy one here and there but my all time go-to were:

1. Cohiba Black (small 6 pack tin, perfect for groups)

2. A.Fuente Short Story

I can't recommend these enough but the short story is almost always sold out and the black are near impossible to find to the point where my local store would stock them special order.

Had a stressful few days and managed to secure 30 minutes of free time so I figured it was the perfect opportunity to come down to the cigar hut and have one of my favourite quick smokes.

I took a break from cigars for a while and I'm in the process of stocking the humidor again. There's still 16 Esplendidos (aged 11 years now!) in there but I never get the time to smoke them. I'll be looking at some shorter smokes. Any recommendations?

For those if you in the US, a buddy of mine regularly orders boxes of Cubans from the Swiss suppliers and they always get through.

HdM Petit Robustos.

Have always been my favourites because they are short but full of flavour without being overly strong. Spicy and leathery.

The Epicure 2s are also good.

They're reasonably priced too. I'm definitely going to get a few Monte Petit Edmundos although the last one I smoked wasn't as good as usual but I suspect it was a one off.

Is that a Siglo VI at the bottom? That wrapper looks tasty!

Picked these up on a whim today.
- Ramon Allones Petit Belicoso (UK region exclusive)
- Diplomaticos No. 1
- Partagas Serie D No.4
- Fonseca No. 1

I'm only getting started. So much want!

I'm currently smoking the Diplomaticos No. 1. Jeez, what a chore! This thing is tighter than a nuns chuff. The flavour is wonderful. A very mellow first third, opening up into a more robust typical Cuban tobacco flavour with a hint of citrus. It's a pity I have to suck like a street whore to get any of it though.

This cigar was discontinued in 2006 and I believe this is from an '05 box. It's at a prime age. I'll not be looking for any more though. A cigar is supposed to be a relaxing experience, not a tongue workout!

Partagas Serie D No. 4 with a Talisker 10. What a pair!

This is quite a young cigar and it showed in the first third. A touch harsh and it needed a touch up but into the second third it mellowed to what I expected but retained the pepper. I prefer the Cohiba version but this ain't half bad. Recommended!

Sorry, just noticed this post now. The humidor is from Cuban Crafters. Even with shipping from the US it worked out better value than most offerings in the UK. It's quite well put together, however I neglected it for a couple of years and it dried out, rendering the seal on the lid not as good as the cedar shrank. I have since re-seasoned it and whilst it is not yet as stable as it was, with some Heartfelt beads in there it remains at a steady 65%RH.

If you would like any more advice on choosing or seasoning a humidor I'd be happy to go into more detail.

In case anyone is still following this thread... :p

Santa came with a few samples! As much as I want to get stuck in, I'm going to leave them to settle for a bit. I'll probably age the Churchills and save them for special occasions.

L to R:
Partagas Lusitanias
Vegas Robaina Don Alejandro
Cohiba Siglo VI
Cohiba Behike 52
Bolivar Petit Belicosos LE 2009
Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 2
Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial
Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure No. 1
5x Romeo y Julieta Julieta (free gift!)

I'm looking forward to see if the Behike lives up to the reputation.

I have purchased what i think is the same humidor as yours Scuzi from Cuban Crafters, i made an offer of a $100 (£65) and they accepted it. I was very surprised and very happy, just waiting for delivery now :) Where did you get the new batch from ?

Cigarone.com. Service was excellent!

Enjoy the humidor. I was worried that mine had suffered due to neglecting it for a fee years but after a week of seasoning and a couple of weeks stabilising, it's doing really well. I'd recommend ditching the standard humidifier for some Heartfelt beads or the Xikar gel/bead humidifiers. They'll keep it rock steady.

Also, before putting cigars into the humidor make sure you season it!

How long can you keep cigars for?
As Bear has said, if kept in the right conditions then they'll last a very long time. Cigars age and develop over time and it can be likened to wine and whiskey. The older it gets, the more mellow and complex the flavours can become. I just smoked a recent Ramon Allones and it was harsh. I reckon it would be much better after a couple of years in the humidor.

The ideal age is a personal thing but depending on individual cigars, a lot of smokers would consider 7-10 years old a sweet spot. If aged in the right conditions, at a temperature of 60-70F and a relative humidity of 60-65% (slightly lower than ideal smoking humidity), it's amazing how they can change over the years. I have about 10 Cohiba Esplendidos left from a box I bought about 5 years ago and the change in them over that period has been significant.

forgot for a few weeks to check on my humidor, it was getting pretty dry in there :( re-watered it a little so hopefully over the next few weeks I should be able to recover them.

While I was there picked out a Monte Cristo Joyitas to have, still tasted perfect :)
