What film did you watch last night?

Delivery Man: 6/10

Generated a few feels, but it wasn't a comedy, and I associate Vince Vaughn with comedy, so I couldn't really get into it completely.

Primer

excellent film and if your into science and the concept of time travel you're in for a treat as the film is in no way dumbed down for the sake of the film.

You'll either get the film and love it along with its slightly lower budget feel or get lost and have no hope of understanding it.

-- might have to add about time to my watch list.

Furious 6

Oh my, where do I start. Well not that you can watch this franchise (maybe apart from #1, in parts) where willing suspension of disbelief is in order, but this 6th outing really does take the biscuit in every major scene in this film.

I wasn't expecting much as the films became less about the cars (especially after Tokyo Drift, which was unbelievably bad IMHO) and more about the implausible storyline.

I read on here somewhere that the runway scene, if speed/time etc were taken into account, the runway would have had to be nearly 30 miles long - that's one example of how utterly unrealistic this film was.

I'd give it a very generous 5/10 for the sheer amount of laughing I did, especially the bridge/runway scenes. Take those out and probably 2/10.

For obvious reasons the next film will be (hopefully) the last so let's hope Paul Walker's last film outing is better than this one.

Watched Contact last night. Seen it a couple of times before but what an incredible film. Easily my favourite sci fi film.

Well that is true, although I'm ever the optimist and hope each new film will be as good as the original.... I'm still waiting.

Now you see me

Watched this as well over the weekend - brilliant film, really wasn't expecting to like it but was impressed.

Plenty of others have reviewed it so I don't want to go over old ground.

8.5/10

The Way Way Back - 7/10 - Worth a watch if you like 'finding yourself' teen type films. Sam Rockwell's antics made it. Steve Carell is surpirsingly good as the bad guy too, thought it was a decent performance. Enjoyed on the whole.

Monsters University - 8/10 - Loved it. Big fan of Pixar films and this didn't disappoint. My only critisism would be that it's quite US uni centric, so there may be some nuances I missed e.g. all the stuff about fraternities.

I like a good sci fi and decided to check the trailer then realised I watched this a few years ago. Sometimes "low budget" can put people off films as it conjures up ideas of bad effects and corny acting but this isnt one of those films, it adds to it if anything. Think i'll watch it again sometime

Riddick

Not as good as the first or the second (or even the lesser known animated connecting film between 1 and 2).

You can see a lot of the first film with twists in it and I'd really like further efforts to be more original such as the difference between 1 and 2.

Riddick is Riddick in the same way Micheal Corleone is the Godfather, they need interesting characters around them or it's just this broody loner taking up screen time. I don't think the supporting characters really did much for me.

But overall it's an acceptable return of Riddick and unlike some sequels I can mention the CGI didn't go down the pan.

American Hustle

I am undecided yet whether to give this a 5/10 or an 8/10. It was a good story, but it felt too long, with some scenes seemingly included just to give actors screen time to try an earn awards, without actually pushing the story along.

One thing I will say is that if you like Amy Adams cleavage/side boob/legs, with a splash of Jennifer Lawrence cleavage, then this is the film for you. Practically every dress Adams wears throughout, has a neckline down by her naval. :D

American Hustle - yeah few slow and pointless moments but it was a good film, not a bad soundtrack either. 7/10

About Time - watched this with the gf to keep her happy, was ok. 5/10.

Lone Survivor - good bit of action, god knows how many times they all got shot and how many bones they broke and still kept fighting on, bit ott but worth a watch. 5/10

Parkland - not too bad, good insight to the day and what happened. 6/10

About time, 3, maybe 4/10, it's perfectly pleasant, it's got a mostly great cast, the lead literally sounds like Hugh Grant at times making Hugh Grant's career seem absurd. Take general boring bland person and give him pleasant lines to barely act and you have a type cast career in the same role that literally anyone could have walked in to.

It's about 1/4 of a real film, nothing happens, every stage is needlessly long and while pleasant, and filmed well, exceptionally little happens throughout the film. She is beautiful and a good actress but she does almost exactly nothing in this film. The only truly interesting character is the sister.

I liked four weddings, even notting hill, but nothing happened in this damn film. got born, found out about time travel, basically used it for nothing interesting or useful, had kids, dad died, the end...... oh, it rained at the wedding, that almost made the film worthwhile.

It's a good premise and a great cast except for the utterly replaceable lead, but they didn't do anything at all with it.

You missed the part about the point of the movie? the part about time is precious and don't spend to much time thinking of the bad things and enjoy the moments you have.

p.s. I agree with the lead, he sounded like Hugh Grant too much at times.
