What have you done to your car today?

Checked the oil in the Megane and it doesn't appear to have used any in the 5000 miles I have owned it. Sort of surprised by that, not sure why though.

Looking for some RS4 alloys and tyres for summer wheels... ordered a new oil filter too and now looking for brake discs and pads. Resisiting the old Cayenne 350 6 pot calipers...

Washed and waxed it on Saturday ready for the winter. Annoyingly ran out of Tardis and I've got some pretty hefty tar spots on the lower panels behind the wheels.

Also picked it up from the garage after having the trailing arm bushes replaced with poly ones, car feels much better, especially when taking bends spiritedly - just need to get the ARB's replaced and I'll be near enough fully Powerflex'd :)

Yesterday I learned all about the Peugeot's rear drums. I had not worked on rear drums before other than to adjust a handbrake. I decided to replace the handbrake cable and shoes to ensure it's refreshed.

Little did I know that whoever had fitted it previously had managed to make it fit the wrong way around and I was trying to replicate that, completely baffled at how they managed to stretch the springs behind the shoes. One Google picture search later and found how it should have been assembled. Much easier. Although I still hate shoe springs :p

WHen i rebuilt the E36, one thing that is meant to be a pain is the rear drums and handbrake mech

I had never worked on a drum set up before hand (or hadnt refurbished one) but just got the parts diagrams out and it worked out pretty well and now ive got a full functinoal handbrake which is meant to be rare on E36s

Cars gone into powdercoaters for 3 days for the alloys to be done and 2 new tyres fitted (Didn't have any other wheels to roll about on) ordering a new led for one of my map lights as it seems to of died on me, When it comes out it will get a going over with the karcher and vac and a fresh layer of polish. Might have to restore my headlights as one is starting to gain a slight haze :( Then a few more weeks till my MOT and the HID's can go back in :D

Tried out some new toys over the weekend. Nilfisk Centennial pressure washer and autobrite snow foam lance with magifoam.

The drum setup for handbrake on BMW's is actually quite a good way of going about things tbh - with it sitting in behind the disc it's simple to remove / replace / adjust the shoes. The last french car I had to do drums on I had springs flying off everywhere, knuckles skinned trying to adjust the mechanism, hub nuts made of cheese etc.

Dropped car off at dealer this morning to have my both my front springs replaced. Have it booked in to get the wheels aligned at my local expert who uses Hunter kit and knows exactly what he is doing with it, half the time it doesn't matter if it's the latest kit getting used, it's down to an operator who knows his stuff. This guy certainly does. ;)

Been a very hectic weekend for me so I haven't had chance to view the footage or setup the prefs. (gotta scrounge usage of my daughters Win 7 Laptop to use the software !)

These! Just need to book a dry evening for my tyre guy to come fit them

Always amuses me how big and wide the rears look when off the car.

I was looking at one of these, cant part with £300 odd quid yet but will be getting one at some point. Let me know how it is.

Put a new battery in, taxed it, thrashed it.

You could have really small hands though :p

They are just comically oversized given the engine power. Not a good power to tyre ratio IMO, it's a normal BMW thing though. Same tyre size across the range of engines.

Which tyres did you go for?

Nankang, are they good? I heard they are good and have amazing grip.

Engine power doesn't really matter given it's rwd. The added grip at the rear on cornering means 2nd/3rd gear + high revs = plenty of grip whatever the -reasonable- conditions :p

Next time you've got the car jacked up (and on stands) lie next to them, quite imposing then!

Or bounce them before they go on the wheels (yes I'm easily entertained)

I will bounce a tyre or two to the tyre guy when he fits them, let's see how amusing that is :D

! - Medium hands ;)

Fitted a new Bosch S5 019 from Halfords! In the E39 as the old one has given up!

Would have got the S4 but it was in stock and the S5 works out an extra £10 so it wasn't worth the waiting TBH.

This has made my Monday a happy Monday.

Earlier in the thread there was a link to car mats for £11 and I ordered a set. Today they arrived.

Well there's no mistaking that they cost £11, however for a winter set that are just going to get trashed, they are most definitely worth it :) (thanks again to whoever posted the link)
