What film did you watch last night?

Pain & Gain
Based very very loosely on true events. The film was a little strange, it felt like it dragged in the middle. The characters were quite stupid and it was a little comical, and you sort of felt a little sorry for them being so dumb. Compare that to the real events, and the gang (a part from involving more people) were a lot nastier. As mentioned at the start, a lot of the characters, events and situations were changed considerably from what actually happened.
I did enjoy Walhberg's character though; a crazy, delusional, hair-brained "doer".
5/10

Wolf of Wall Street - 9/10

Wolf of Wall Street

9/10

Absolutely incredible film

Wolf of Wall St 9/10, was worried about the 3hr run time and being knackered towards the end but it was a blast and the runtime absolutely flew in.

The Wolf of Wall Street

Possibly Di Caprio's greatest performance; certianly Jonah Hill's!

9/10

I must see this film.
Is there anyone in Hollywood as consistently good as Di Caprio?

Pretty much everything I've seen him in over the last few years has ranged from excellent to amazing.

Just re-watched the end of Lone Survivor. I must have been tired first time around because only on the rewatch have I realised how massively different it is to the book/real events. The film is totally Hollywood at the end. The book is far better, paints a truer picture and isn't so full of 'Air Force swoops in a saves the day' BS.

Elysium

Ok. A lazy evening watch. Nothing remarkable in either the story line or the acting but worth the time to watch.

5/10

Blue Jasmine

Blanchett was very impressive in the lead role. Not normally a fan of woody allen but was entertained from start to finish. Good flick.

7.5 - 10

Big Bad Wolves

For

Very well made foreign film. Some people comparing it to some of tarintinos work. It is slick, doesn't pull many punches and the dialogue is pretty snappy. Well worth a watch.

8 - 10

Wolf of Wall Street: 9.5/10 was absolutely fantastic and kept me hooked from start to finish. Once or twice for about 20-30 seconds I thought there were points in the film which didn't need to be there, or whether it was a bit ott.

Watching Blue Jasmine now, Blanchett has been superb so far.

e: 8/10 for Blue Jasmine; seemed to finish too soon but individual performances were outstanding (minus alec baldwin) and the plot was solid. Felt a bit lacking though in depth

The whole movie seemed very Hollywood to me, still watchable though. Not read the book nor know much about the actual event yet.

The book is well worth a read. It is worth bearing in mind though that Luttrell didn't actualy write it. This may be one reason that some of the numbers of Taliban described are stupidly high. None the less, I recommend it for a good tale of amazing and tragic events.

We're spoiled with our choice of films to watch at the moment!

Recent watches are:
The Wolf of Wall Street - 9/10 - Very cool film and entertaining throughout despite the length. Pretty sure this will be considered a classic in the future.
Captain Phillips - 9/10 - Excellent acting from Tom Hanks and plenty of excitement. Quite Hollywood/cheesily American at times but fine if you can get over that.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - 7/10 - Very similar to the first film, nothing groundbreaking but solidly entertaining.
Runner Runner - 7/10 - Mainly for Gemma Arterton

EDIT: A post below reminded me of another:
Her - 8/10 - Nice semi-original concept and good acting from Joaquin Phoenix, a good thinker.

Meh. I don't get the hype at all.

It wasn't terrible but it was far from great.

6/10

edit: really want to see The Wolf of Wall Street now.

Agree with what you say on hunger games.

Recent watch for me has been 'a beautiful mind', no idea how I missed this film, I really enjoyed it, don't want to say too much as to spoil it. 9/10

Indeed but I personally found the last 2 films he did a bit meh....both did well at Oscar time as well.
There Will Be Blood and Lincoln both bored me somewhat, Lincoln in particular.

there will be blood is epic :( specially the end with the milkshake bit :D
