Pellegrini on Mata:"I don't agree a player can go from one team to another in the same league in this part of the year." #MUFC #CFC #MCFC

Its not just Wenger :p

Just came out of mosque, Friday prayer. Met Özil, tells me Draxler is done. €41,000,000. Took the **** with the shoulder space though.

Got to love twitter, giving false hope to football fans all over the country

For me the way United fans are celebrating this just shows how far the club has fallen this season, if paying over the odds for a player one of their main rivals don't want is such a big deal I'm afraid I missed it. Mata is a good player but 37 million is well over the top and I bet he is on wages to match added to which he doesn't even play in any of the positions Man Utd desperately need to strengthen unless Moyes has him in mind as a centre back!

It's not over the odds at all, I'm pretty sure we'd all be this happy if we'd signed him just after we'd won the league. Jose not wanting him/liking him has no bearing on his ability. He'd freeze out anyone he didn't like, no matter how good they are. He's apparently on £70,000 a week which we're doubling, still well short of the likes of Rooney.

Don't be mad.

"Wenger complaining is normal because he always does. It's something we know."

This did get a laugh :D

LOL if there was a trophy for complaining the most, Wenger would have that trophy sewn up every single year:D

Something a friend of mine sent to me earlier today which raised a few laughs from me.

When Chelsea sell their best player, its good business Jose.
When Arsenal sell their best player, Wenger should be sacked.

:D

Mere Ashley Young money :p:cool:.

Could you argue it's over the odds if no other team (PSG/Athletico Madrid/whoever) has been reported as offering that price? If it was a fair price/you weren't pay a premium, why wouldn't other teams be interested?

Don't talk to me about Ashley Young.

Who says they weren't interested? Maybe he wanted to stay in England as Jose said? At. Madrid couldn't fund it very easily and the only real draw of PSG is the cash, the league is weak and boring.

I'm sure we've had to pay a bit of a premium being in the same league and as a rival team (though not at the moment). I don't think it's a bad price at all. The same way Mesut Ozil wasn't a bad price for Arsenal at £42m.

It seems a fair price, particularly considering the quality of the player. Then again I'm not paying it so I'm not that fussed if we did pay a bit more. I doubt he'd have gone anywhere for under 30 million.

£37mill for Mata if the figure is to be believed is a bloody good price for him, i dont know if he will change Utds fortunes around seeing as Moyes will probably destroy him anyhow as a player but still £37mill for one of the best PL players around isnt bad at all.

Its funny how its all worked out, a few yrs back Arsenal were in for him till Chelsea came in and grabbed him, he then went onto win the CL that same year...almost 3 yrs later hes being sold to Utd lol.

Reports on Thursday suggested that Salah was on the brink of a move to Stamford Bridge after the Blues had a bid accepted by the Egyptian winger’s club, Basel.

Chelsea even went as far as issuing a statement on their official website declaring they had agreed to sign Salah, subject to a medical and international clearance.

However, in an interview with talkSPORT on Friday morning, Rodgers was quizzed about missing out on signing Salah, to which he hinted that the race to sign the 21-year-old was not over yet.

On Friday afternoon, at his press conference ahead of Chelsea’s FA Cup Fourth Round tie at home to Stoke City on Sunday, Mourinho also revealed the deal wasn’t a foregone conclusion.

The Portuguese manager also admitted that the Blues had not inquired about Salah until it became apparent they were to sell Juan Mata to Manchester Utd — a deal that should be completed imminently.

“Maybe he’s [Rodgers] right, I don’t know what Liverpool bid before us. All I know is we went direct to Basel, they said yes, so we reached an agreement,’ Mourinho is quoted by Metro as saying.

“It was a surprise for us that Juan [Mata] was leaving, we were not prepared to make a bid or to try to bring a player to replace Juan in the squad, so everything happened very fast. We had to work on that and see which options could be good options for us and finally we decided to try for Salah.

“We started from zero because we had no contact with the club [Basel] or the player.

Annoying that Chelsea were not even in for Salah until 3 weeks after us, we seem to have blew that. Potentially in the progress tipping Chelsea off about his availability. They were not interested until 2-3 days ago *sheesh*

Why ridiculous?

One of the leagues best players when allowed to actually go on the pitch, from a rival (realistically if not under Moyes or drastic improvement.)

Mental how good that is, how long was left on his contract? 37M seems worth every bit.

He is also likeable which I can't say for many player at either club

I know you didn't say it but apples and oranges, Wenger sold players who had contributed massively to the season gone (RVP and Fab). Mata as much as I love him has not been able to make a mark in this team this season (and is not our best player...Hazard). Regardless I'm still gutted, genuinely likeable, world class talent and deserves to be playing.

I imagine manchester was preferable compared to PSG as Navas, Negredo and Silva are up there!

Juan Mata's Manchester United medical held up by Chelsea delay

Juan Mata's £40m transfer to Manchester United from Chelsea has been delayed. His medical may not happen now until the weekend and some work is still required for the deal to be completed.

The delay is at the Chelsea end of the move rather than at United and, though Mata had been expected to have a medical by the close of Friday, this is now in the balance, despite José Mourinho saying the player had travelled to have the examination. Yet both clubs are understood to have no concerns, with United relaxed about what would be a club record deal according to sources at Old Trafford.
