Really a cool film with some freaky moments. Watch it with headphones or good speakers and marvel as it rustles your jimmies to no end. High production values and cinematic makes for a nice dose of ghostly action and drama.
Filth: Mind-blowing performance from James McAvoy playing an absolute scumbag, in a very funny and stomach-churning film of Irvine Welsh's book. Bluray ordered, buying a poster and reading the book now. 10/10 all day long.
Made of Stone: Fantastic documentary of the Stone Roses comeback which I somehow hadn't seen yet. 10/10 again.
Her: Tried, but <walked out> after 30 mins. May give it a go again, but but walked away thinking it was pretentious tripe. 1/10
American Hustle: Explosion in a wig factory (c. Tina Fey). Great performances and soundtrack in the mould of Casino. Amy Adams' film, for me. 8/10

Her - 8/10 - A really enjoyable film to watch with the GF with plenty of funny, poignant & sad moments with the added bonus of Scarlett Johansson making quite believable sex noises which actually made me chuckle (think "When Harry met Sally"). The GF was not happy
1/10 is harsh although I know what you mean about it being pretentious. It wasn't half as good as I expected. I found it some what dull and not artistic or charming.
Insidious 2, not a bad movie i thought. Missus was scared as usual but even it gave me a few goosebumps. Was it as good as the first one?? not really but for a sequel it wasnt that bad imho.
Having watched Pitch Perfect a couple of weeks ago, we watched Bring It On. Pitch Perfect is basically Bring It On with singing instead of cheerleading. Bring It On only scores 5.9 at imdb while Pitch Perfect scores 7.3, and I'm baffled as to why. Bring It On is much more consistent and has a vastly better script.
Just watched mavity. Holy smokes is it action packed! I was led to believe it was simply Sandra Bulluck floating through space. Well it aint!
not sure I blieve the ending. The fact she hallucinated Matt makes me think she could have hallucinated the whole lot after that
Really well done film and with just two actors too. I have to say, I'd love to see any making of videos, I can't work out how they made the space floating look so real, at first I thought maybe they did it in water, then I thought maybe they jumped off tall building, then I thought make in the vomit comet, then I thought maybe they did it skydiving, then I thought maybe they really went to space. Then i realised those are either stupid or have flaws. Simple CGI I guess.
I particularly likes how correct it was, everything being really big in space, i.e. big screw drivers, big parachute rope etc. I liked that the physics was correct, i.e. momentum is a bitch.
The only thing I question at all is the spark to the fire of the plot.
how likely is it that russian debris like that could wipe out a spaceship repairing the hubble, the ISS, and a chinese thingy? Certainly looks like devestating collateral.
Also I loved how it eneded...
they just left it blank, they could have easily gone with the hollywood tripe by finishing it with her in a nasa press conference or a cheering crowd to great her. They did none of this and I thank the film makers/writer for that.
Also, actual runtime only 1hour and 25 minutes. Perfect. Just as sometime short books are preferable to long books, sometimes shorter films are prefereable to 3 hour films. They both have their place though of course!
1) Sandra Bullock had some special frame thing that she "floated" in. It had a special name, some sort of pun on her name, but I forget what.
2) The physics is generally very good, yes, bar the very contentious bit when Clooney lets go.
3) It is very unlikely that any of it could happen, as satellites in space are in multiple different heights of orbit, vast distances apart. Even if the satellites were wiped out in that way, it would be hundreds of miles from the shuttle to the ISS.
4) I thought the ending left it open for her to die in the middle of nowhere, which would have been quite ironic...
And yes, I loved it, and yes it was excruciatingly tense.
