What film did you watch last night?

Yep afraid so, can't say it really broke any new boundaries or told a story that hadn't already been told before in terms of slavery in the USA.

I don't know of another film in existence that has tackled the subject of slavery in this way...

Please name the films so I can watch them

Man of steel. Sorry, did not like it at all. Found it completely devoid of emotion. The scene where he first meets Jor-El pales in comparison to the Marlon Brando version! just nowhere near the same emotion.

Could have been so much better.

That could certainly be argued :D Still, if that's how it found it, then that's how he found it.
Fwiw, I saw Matrix 3 at the cinema and loudly said "Well, that was ****" when the credits came up :D

Yep

Some people are really up their own ***** in this thread...Its comedy...

HEADRAT will of course conveniently ignore my post :p

Of course he will :p

12 slaves a year to be watched tonight I think!

You're in for a real treat my man :)

Sometimes the style is the substance. See also: Sin City.

Very true. I did enjoy the plot of Sin City, but the art scheme really put it up a couple of notches.

I literally just finished watching this, and I'm not going to bother writing a seperate post about it.

4/10

I was ready to give it a 5 (the same as my Thor: The Dark World score), but then at the end, that bloody girl is giggling and she says in response to the Colonel asking why she was laughing: "I just think he's hot." In my head I said "Are you ****ing kidding me?". What a joke of a film, and at 2 hours 20 minutes, it's way too long. Amy Adams has also been in a lot of things recently, I;m starting to get bored of her as the only performance that stood out to me was American Hustle, and I wasn't overly keen on that film any way :p It's a shame that DC couldn't bring Man of Steel onto the same echolon as Iron Man.

Just watched The Lego Movie in 3D, very good, kids loved it and tbh so did I! If you are or were a Lego fan I would say watch it.

Of course he will :p

the end as well summed it all up. Can anyone on here honestly say the neck snap from MOS was better than the crushed hand in Superman 2?

And I'm also a stickler for the Superman March, so that didn't help.

12 years a slave. 7.5/10

Hmmm, Well, its a quite entertaining and fascinating story for sure. If anything i'd say it actually was too short, that is something I rarely say. He had a bit of an unfulfilled court room ordeal after freedom and a shady unknown ending to his life (maybe?) Maybe 5 mins to set his scene explaining America and black free men in the 1840s

There was some very confusing scenes were background music intruded over dislodge and those damn crickets/insects chirping over-ride almost everything.

Like i say it was entertaining and interesting but it also lacked any sense of time to it... 12 years passed ? It was only after we got home and read his history on wiki that we could relate his life into the time frame.

so err yeah, it was good, my butt didn't hurt in the seat. Some good overall performances but. ok, i think it missed the mark.
It will probably win Oscars for "sympathy" votes, i dared to say it. America loves apologizing to itself on one hand and committing modern atrocities on the other.

The world has certainly changed for the better.

Did it not tug at your emotions? The hanging sequence stood out to me; it was ridiculously difficult to watch, but the direction and acting was superb.

Grand Piano (2013) - Some awesome concepts sharply delivered with gusto that are ultimately flattened by a lack of characterisation and a very unclear vision, this highbrow psychodrama turns to gutterball slasher tropes in places and finally suffers the eventual fall from grace thanks to an overtired deus ex machina.

If it wasn't for the acting and occasional acid flashback it'd be lower, but as it stands it manages 6.5 out of 10
