What film did you watch last night?

Philomena

Have to give massive credit to Judie Dench for an amazing -amazing- performance in this. I've not really paid attention to her as an actress in anything beyond Bond but in this she shows just how adaptive she can be and how expressive without resorting to bawling like other actresses in other films. The camera shows closeups of her face often and you get a deep sense of what her character is feeling, not an easy thing to accomplish and she pulls it off brilliantly.

Funny moments throughout but when the serious parts come you're watching with complete attention.

I'm a fan of Steve Coogan too and felt he was a good choice for the role, can't really imagine anyone else fitting in so well with Denche's character and style either.

I give it 8.5/10.

My massive Oscar Nomination film session continues with....

Captain Phillips (aka Captain Tom Hanks) 8/10

Tom Hanks stars as Captain Hanks on the Maersk container ship "Hanks". Borded by a Black skinny taxi driver from New York and his 3 mates from Black Hawk down.

Stuff happens and Tom Hanks ends up on a lifeboat with half the US navy come to fix his kidnapping one way or another.

As it is based on fact i guess their is a degree of artistic liscence to make characters seem dumber than most seem to be capable??? (apparently the real Capt Phillips was a complete douchebag)

Still it is an enjoyable film, Dunno if taxi driver deserves his Bafta.. It kinda feels like they gave him a list of lines and said "read those and wave an AK47 and say "Irish" lots."

deffo worth a watch but just 1 and not worth wasting 150 Kr, which could have been better spent on meatballs and/or gravlax

Three Kings

I was expecting a straight up war film with this one, but I got something very different.

Black comedy, patriotism and a confusing plot (in my head anyway).

I enjoyed it, but I hadn't really set myself up for something as comedic as it was; I was expecting a Hurt Locker alternative. It's worth a watch, Wahlburg is good, and Clooney is meh, but Ice Cube is funny. Not much more I can think of to describe it to be honest.

'Due date'.
My neighbour from upstairs went down and asked what movie I was watching.
He was cooking dinner and heard regular bursts of laughter from downstairs and got curious :-)

Not here, it's brilliant on a "small" screen - Just have big sound and the experience is still good.

Agreed, watched it Sat night and thought it was a good watch and both roles played well. Wouldn't stretch to an 8.5 though, as I'm tight. 7.5 :)

So this thread is gonna be nothing but people bitching about how mavity is terrible on the small screen, huh?

Shocker.

I think most (like myself) are complaining about the story not the effects, which are fantastic. They must have been amazing on an Imax screen.

Hangover Part III last night - not nearly as bad as I'd been led to believe but still only around a 5/10 for me!

Not a hangover in sight too! :p

Watched Sound City after someone on here mentioned it. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and didn't realise how many bands and great albums were recorded there. Very interesting from start to finish.

Recently picked up the remastered version of the original Robocop, figured I'd remind myself what it's like before/if I watch the remake which is probably going to be terrible.

Forgotten how good it was. Also the remastered version is a really good transfer.
