What have you done to your car today?

Got my BMW Performance exhaust fitted today. I'll get a video up in the next few days but from the brief drive back from the garage all I can say is OH MY GOD! :)

Seriously considering getting one... is it a significant difference and how much was it?

My new wheels arrived today... 18" M359 style (considered 19" but the tyres were considerable more expensive and I didn't want to compromise the ride quality).

Goodyear Eagle F1 AS2 tyres from Camskill are due to arrive tomorrow.

Nice looking wheels matey. In my personal opinion 18s look a bit too small on the E92, and seeing as you're going for non runflats and you have the M Sport suspension anyway, then 19" would probably have been fine.

Make sure you get some pics up when they're fitted though..would be good to see :)

The BMW PE is very different to the standard exhaust. Thankfully it's not droney like a lot of aftermarket exhausts; you can cruise in D without ever knowing you have the PE fitted and you can very much control how much noise it gives out with the accelerator. It sounds immense on a cold start, but once warm it quietens down a lot, much like the standard exhaust does. On WOT it sounds absolutely immense!

I'm hoping to borrow a GoPro from a workmate to record a proper video from outside, but until I do this is a good idea of how it sounds on the road:

I paid £600 second-hand and got to keep my original silencers so I can resell the PE when I eventually get rid of the 335, which was a very good deal. I've only seen 2 others for sale recently and both of those sellers had them up for £700ish + your old silencers.

I imagine you could probably get something similar made up for less money, but as it's a genuine BMW part it doesn't affect your warranty.

Sold it

Looked at a few options, new and used over the last couple of weeks and picked the R8, don't know just yet but it will be a month or two before I get the new one.

I will post in the Audi section with what I am getting exactly.

Going for the v10 I hope! I've been a passenger in both and you'll find it'll be a completely different experience over the GTR, not as quick off the line and slower around corners but a much more involving drive overall. Also look at MRC Tuning if you fancy a few tuning options.

Wow JP. I'd never go from a Skyline to a R8. The GTR is just so special, rarely see them about, plenty of R8's though. What made you change?

May I ask how much the GTR sold for?

I see more GTRs than R8s in these parts. The R8 is likely to be seen by most as a more prestigious car than the GTR too I reckon. Either way....its a nice choice to have to make :)

It is special but I have just had enough of it, kept taking the range rover out rather than the GTR.
I think the ride, noise and interior quality got to me and the performance wasn't boring but wasn't enough, not an overall experience.
I still love the R35 but I think I love the idea of owning one more than actually owning one. I don't know, hard to explain, still R36 is a few years off, who knows :D
Unless you are tracking it to really get the most out of it the performance is just wasted. I had been running it at 14 psi rather than 18 psi just so it wasn't so mental on the road!
Knowing nothing short of a hypercar or highly modified car was going to be faster than me was pretty fun though. And it isn't like the R8 V10 is slow, 500 odd bhp and not far off the in gear performance of mine at stock.

As for money, I got 64K towards the new car but that is including some discounts their end, I wanted it gone before the 14 plate came out as mine was a 12 and I also didn't want to sell it private and have to deal with all the test pilots, tyre kickers, potential car jackers (I have read stories with these cars!) and Audi wanted a sale before the end of the month so we came to a deal that I was happy with.
Sure I have lost money and more on the R8 eventually but I am happy with my decision.

Ignore my post, didn't spot your post and it answered all my questions :p

Looking forward to seeing what mental machine you go for next mate :)

Missed your pre-edit post!

No idea next, I wanted 6-speed manual before they are phased out all together on higher end cars.

Next car could be a Lamborghini but depends where I am in the next few years.

Let's face it, it's an awesome upgrade. I bet you're excited! I look forward to seeing it at a meet some day :)

I think so :D

Not an upgrade in raw acceleration performance but as an overall car I think it is.

Audi think 2 months build time but not 100% sure until it all goes through with quattro GmbH. So I won't make the RR next month but I plan to be at the next one for a baseline run!
Also I hope some Go Karting and a trackday once I have it :D

I totally understand the owning one more then actually owning one concept when it comes to cars. It's more like you wouldn't mind driving one day to day, but keeping it/living with it can get a bit tiresome. That's how I think of it.

Well, I wish you luck on the Audi purchase, it'll be a totally different drive and car to live with I bet. £64k towards the new car is a fair amount of money, so I'm guessing your GTR was fairly new? I see used example go for around the £32k mark. Not a bad price at all.

Losing money on cars is always going to happen. It's just worse for those who buy brand new. :p

Rubbish picture of the car on the ramp...I've been up to Roddisons Motorsport in Sheffield, had some Meister R 'Zeta S' coilovers fitted along with corner weighting and alignment...

Please with the improvement to handling, got the dampers set to a moderately soft setting at present (12 clicks from softest on the front, 10 clicks from softest on rear, these are out of 32 click adjustment for compression/rebound) and its still pretty comfortable for town driving, and the spring rates are reasonable for road use as well. When I get brave and take it on a trackday I can dial up the damping a bit to stiffen it up...

The previous setup was lowering springs, put on the car by its previous owner, this was way too bouncy at the rear and not well damped. Over crests or larger bumps it almost felt like the back of the car wanted to lift up. With the coilovers it feels much more settled especially at higher speeds.

This afternoon I also decided to fix some of the annoying problems - cured a rattle that was apparent with the steering cowl trim with some dynamat, and also tidied up the wiring behind the stereo install so it doesn't rattle/squeak any more.
