What have you done to your car today?

Forced to take a day off tomorrow as there's no work. Was outside being a skivvy today sweeping the yard. :(

So tomorrow I shall be fitting the oil pump and water pump that arrived today and taking the cylinder head to work to clean it and check the valves on No 4 cylinder are still straight being as there is evidence of the piston having ******* the head when the big end let go..

Intake plenum off, fuel rail out, rounded a couple of injector cap screws and got the grinder on them, set fire to everything in sight, got the injectors out. Fun times :p

I'm half convinced the VANOS isn't working right on my 328. I drove a friends 328 the other day and that definitely pulls nicer up to 3k, at the top end mine feels quicker though, saying that his is a heavier convertible. How do you properly diagnose the VANOS?

Get it on a DIS setup and you should be able to run the tests on the VANOS units.

My M54 engined 330ci needs new VANOS seals, similar to you, there's a distinct jump in performance at 3k RPM. Hack Engineering are selling the proper Beisian systems seals (and anti-rattle kits) in the UK at reasonable prices. Alternatively there's the i6Automotive ones on eBay.

I had similar symptoms on my 330 and it was a faulty exhaust camshaft position sensor. It reached a point where it was so low on power below 3k RPM that the autobox would have to downshift just to get me moving on even partial throttle. All this and there were no error codes thrown.

This has just arrived:

PLX SM-AFR Wideband Oxygen sensor to go into my Anglia. This will allow me to see what air-fuel ratio the engine is giving, and allow me to tune it accordingly. It'll be fitted next weekend, along with a MAP-ECU2, replacing the original MAP-ECU.

Got a new indicator arm for my little pug as the old one broke. Making all the lights randomly flash at the slightest touch. That was not a fun trip home!

Also bought some black door handles for the evo. Should hopefully complement the black wheels and wing mirrors.

Bah - first decent weather saturday we've had in ages and I'm busy :( Really wanted to get the front wipers arms off the 350Z and respray them as they look shocking at the moment (seems to be a common issue with paint peeling) :(

What cable did you get, what year is your Mazda3?

Mine is an '07, this is the cable:

Then used this video (on my phone while sat in the car) as a reference:

Only thing I didn't do was drill the hole he had near the end, I just pushed it down the back of the centre console then threaded it in through the side of the ashtray. Works fine.

Took for the MOT. Failed on high travel on the handbrake, and nearside front coil spring snapped. Great!
