'Contact lost' with Malaysia Airlines plane

Why is "aliens" given more attention as a theory, than my suggestion of "snakes"?

Anyway I'm glad it's given all the aviation buffs a chance to talk geeky about flaps and control systems and whatnot.

However trainspotters are still waiting for their call, where a disappearing train mystery is solved by comparing train numbers between stations. I'm sure their diligent work will be celebrated one day.

I think it has to be a slow decompression, hypoxia caused the odd behaviour and course changes, everyone passed out, expire shortly afterwards, aeroplane continues on auto pilot on last heading with everyone already dead untill fuel runs out.

Neither is concluded to be suicide. Only that the most likely cause of the accident was control manipulation with the conclusions along the lines of "The reason for the relief first officer's actions was not determined".

There is a lot of politics in the results of air crash investigations, as everyone tries to divert the blame elsewhere. To forestall some of this, conclusions are often watered down. And even then another country may dispute them. All the evidence says that the Egyptair crash was suicide, but the Egyptians refuse to agree.

As for the disappeared plane I go with the theory that it's viral marketing for a film.

Well the press conference this morning has revealed a grand total of **** all. :p

25 countries are now assisting with the investigation. It's still very bizarre.

Both reports are sticking to factual information, no there isn't a note/taped confession saying 'I committ suicide'... In each instance the pilot deliberately crashed the aircraft....

Suppose someone takes a big overdose of sleeping pills/pain killers, a resulting (hypothetical) air accident style report concludes that the organ failure wasn't by natural causes but by the deliberate actions of ingesting sleeping pills - would you also argue that it's not suicide... simply because the report doesn't explicitly state it.

Precisely. Why go to the trouble of flying the thing for nearly eight hours and complex avoidance of controlled airspace if you're just going to top yourself.

Why sit on a bridge for ages contemplating the act.... I mean surely they'd just jump straight away.

It's hardly rational to want to take hundreds of people with you either... Suicide seems very likely in this incident, bungled hijacking or similar perhaps the next most likely.

Get drunk off the drinks cart to build some dutch courage to off yourself, maybe even drink your self unconscious. Or coming from a sexually repressed culture, maybe spend the time raping a few of the unconscious female passengers.

This whole thing is going to make a great film. They'll cut the rape scenes for TV though.

So do we think it's sitting in Kazakhstan and the ransom letter has just been posted?

If it's sat in deepest, darkest Kazakhstan, it'll probably take a week for the ransom letter to reach the nearest post office, let alone get posted. :p
