Doesn't really matter because whether they can or not makes no difference! (they 100% cannot reliably imho ) they can't act upon this 'hunch' otherwise we would be getting false alarms left right and center.
A pilot will let ATC know if something is wrong, it's not their job to assume ANYTHING.

Indeed, but as Scuzi mentioned, it might be an experienced operator, or indeed one that cares.

Was it you who some years ago posted the two bird strike recordings, one in the UK, and one in Russia, where the reactions of ATC were altogether different.
I really wouldn't be surprised if everyone was sleeping and no one at the time could be arsed to notice a plane or lack of, and now the are swiftly trying to cover their own behinds.

He wasn't stating they have to do anything. He was pointing out the fact that yes some controllers will know the voices of some of the pilots.
